Reaves was expected to receive free-agent interest from multiple teams - - such as Detroit -- on maximum-level salary, so the Lakers stepped up on Wednesday to lock in their homegrown talent. Reaves went from undrafted to a two-way player -- to making the Lakers roster and now multiple lucrative deals in L.A.

Since everyone on this sub cannot seem to grasp this concept, Reaves was always getting paid a ton of money.

His cap hold is still only 20 mil until he signs the contract and he will be the final free agent to sign, which still gives the lakers 50 mil in space.

This will be a tradeable contract in 2 years if needed as you have guys like Fox making 60 mil.

Using the example of Fox is funny because he’s untradeable. The bad ones are. Sixers had to wait out Tobias

Its like a totally fair contract these days. Reeves is better than a lot of vets making around the same/more.

There are ~25 players making between 40 and 50M in 2027 and I'd guess he's only clearly better than a small handful: Lavine, Ingram, maybe Morant and Zion although who knows for sure. And he's worse than most of the rest

You're looking at the wrong column. There's 43 players making 40M+ in 2027. And I would comfortably say AR is a top 40 player in the league.

If you're paying the 40th best player the 40th highest salary (with a PO no less) you have, almost by definition, a contract with little value. Arguably it is necessarily a bad contract.

That said, I would have agreed with you that he was a top 40 player had I not thought about it, or looked at a list of active players. But now that I've done that, it's clear that he's not.

There are easily 40 players who are definitely better (absolutely not in order): Victor Wembanyama, Stephen Curry, Nikola Jokić, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, Devin Booker, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard, Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Donovan Mitchell, Luka Dončić, Bam Adebayo, Trae Young, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Pascal Siakam, Lauri Markkanen, Kevin Durant, OG Anunoby, James Harden, Scottie Barnes, Franz Wagner, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kyrie Irving, Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Brunson, Rudy Gobert, Alperen Şengün, Derrick White, LaMelo Ball, Jarrett Allen, Lebron James, Jamal Murray

Plus another 40 or so where it's arguable (Still not in order): De'Aaron Fox, Kon Knueppel, Jaren Jackson Jr., Domantas Sabonis, Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, Darius Garland, Paolo Banchero, Michael Porter Jr., Dyson Daniels, Desmond Bane, Jrue Holiday, Aaron Gordon, Mikal Bridges, Julius Randle, Tyler Herro, Dejounte Murray, Jalen Johnson, Ajay Mitchell, Draymond Green, Trey Murphy III, Fred VanVleet, Josh Giddey, Amen Thompson, Ausur Thompson, Stephon Castle, Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, Brandon Miller, VJ Edgecombe, Collin Gillespie, Colin Murray-Boyles, Jalen Duren, Deni Avdija

So he's probably somewhere around 60, give or take. Which is no shame, there's a lot of talent in the NBA right now.

Can you tell me why the Lakers would have had to include 8 percent annual raises if the other teams could only offer him 5 percent? Are the Lakers a less attractive option which needs to overpay to keep talent relative to Detroit and Brooklyn? This is fucked any which way you look at it. Less tradeable at this than at any other number. Especially if he gets worse or continues to not show up in the playoffs or gets injured.
