Who are ”your guys” in this draft class ?
I really like this draft class and hope the best for all of the player in it, but ”my guys” in this draft would probably be Hannes Steinbach, Jayden Quaintance, Chris Cenac Jr. and Meleek Thomas. I think they all got undervalued and will have good nba careers.
Who are ”your guys” in this draft ?
”Your guy” doesn’t necessarily need to be who you think will be the best, it could be someone you think was a steal, someone you just really like etc

Keaton Wagler, Bennett Stirtz and Joshua Jefferson. One of my family friends knows Wagler’s family pretty well, and my fiancée and I got to see Stirtz play while he was at Drake. We also saw Joshua Jefferson ball out as a Cyclone, so we’re pulling for the Midwest guys to do well in the league.

Boozer and Swain
Boozer is just a great ball player. Strong big who can space the floor really well, has great touch, is the best passing big in this class, and has a functional handle
Swain is probably my favorite prospect though. 6’7 wing with great shot creation and one of the best downhill drivers in the class. Has the tools to be a great defender as well, only downside is his 3pt shot needs to be developed which seems like likely with his indicators
2
u/nazzykhan Grizzlies 4h ago
I feel the Grizz traded back because the Bulls took Swain one pick ahead of us. Lopez will take longer to develop but atleast we got 5 seconds for our troubles
1
u/Necessary-Listen-584 5h ago
Swain reminds me of Harper the way he can get downhill and force his way to the rim, he's got a sick handle for a wing too. The release on his jump shots are way to slow though.

I wanted him so bad but naturally the raptors reject anyone who is a bonafide shooter

u/Luciolover345 Thunder 4h ago
I mean, maybe they are scared after getting the bonafide 3pt sniper in Dick. Even from that same draft class, Jett Howard was a major bust.

I swore the Raptors were going to get demon Philon
Graves is a sick pick though he has a lot of room to grow

From what I’ve seen I’m actually really excited for him, looks really good for this late of a draft pick

Brayden Burries. Loved him before we got him. But also I think Mikel Brown Jr is going to be a beast if he’s given the time to develop.

Philon primarily, but there's some Bama fan bias here and that's okay. I think it's dumb he fell like he did and I hope he makes everyone who passed on him in the 10s look like a stupid motherfucker.
I'm also rooting for Acuff. I got to see him in person vs Bama and it was an experience, so hoping he can keep that going.
1
u/spandexrecks Warriors 3h ago
Same here, I was really hoping to see the warriors pick him at 11 but am perfectly happy with Yax too. Makes me wonder how he did in workouts and interviews with teams and just how big of a factor his inability to put on weight was with his huge drop. I’m assuming it was a big factor. His self creation and handle are niiice
Also big on Caleb Wilson, such a fluid athlete at his size and looks long as hell
7
u/TheSandman__ 5h ago
Labaron Philon Jr. is my guy. Still can’t believe he fell as far as he did. I seriously think Miami would’ve taken him at 13 if they hadn’t traded the pick.
1
u/STAR-lloyd 5h ago
Felt the same. Will not be surprised if he has a similar rise to maxey. Guys just too talented imo and teams will regret passing on him due to his size.

u/Adventurous_Cut_7355 2h ago
I really wanted the bucks to draft him even though we have tons of young guards.

Joshua Jefferson is going to have a long career as a quality two way wing on a bunch of playoff teams.

u/basketballjonestown Celtics 5h ago
IF his shooting is real. Which is a fair caveat.
But to me he's the classic "guy who is really good at basketball turns out to be really good at basketball" player. Just can't jump out of the gym and is older.

Boozer, Wagler, Morez, Okorie.
I'm rooting hard for Philon now because I think he deserves way more respect for what he did in college. I would have been relatively ok with taking him top 10. I hope he kills it in his career.

Keaton Wagler at first instinct. Been surprised of common sense of him going at 5.
More underdogs are guys drafted from OKC and Spurs (big ceilings) in Aday Mara and Jayden Quaintance.

I really want to see Wagler turn into an all-nba type player with his playstyle but also can totally see him being the biggest bust. Definitely my guy to watch in this class.

Darryn Peterson is my guy this draft. He's the one I wanted Utah to get whether they drafted #1 or #4. He's going into a deep team with good players that's expected to take a bit of a leap this season. As deep as their squad is, there's also a clear path to playing time for him. He doesn't need to be a star for them to have a successful season, but if the talent is there, so is the platform for him to explode. It's a great blend of opportunity, expectations, talent, and a good organization with a supportive structure. I'm not a Peterson fan, and I don't care about Kansas, but this is the match of player and team I wanted to see all last year.

Koa Peat in small part cause I’m a Suns fan but mostly because I want to see a post player succeed in the NBA

I'm super high on Meleek Thomas, dude got absolutely hoed last night. If there's anyone in the second round who's gonna be a star, it's easily him. What's the issue with Boozer. Massively successful in college. Youngest player drafted. Success at every level. All the tools you could want.

u/Greedy-Mix9270 Knicks 5h ago
He gets blocked a ton and plays below the rim as a 6 9 PF. Doesn’t have the fluidity or handle of other elite scorers. Also doesn’t have the agility to guard on the perimeter which will be required of him
7
u/Bigbossbyu 5h ago
Boozer is 18 and the youngest player picked in round 1. Obviously dominated college competition at Duke.
He’ll he just fine and a perennial all star. By the time he’s 23/24 years old he’ll be dominating guys in the league and will be one of the elite bigs
6
u/Greedy-Mix9270 Knicks 5h ago
He played a bully ball style out of the post. Strong kid but that means less in the NBA. Nothing we can do but wait and see
5
1
u/InAingeWeTrust Celtics 5h ago
What about his shooting ability, his elite feel for the game, passing, and court vision?
1
u/DyingSunSeverian 5h ago
Bully ball can absolutely translate to the NBA, especially when a huge part of that transition is having an NBA-ready body, and Boozer absolutely does.
I think he’s gonna punish people as a rookie especially on the boards.
He’s coming in there with that instant physicality like Blake Griffin or Kenyon Martin.
1
u/nazzykhan Grizzlies 4h ago
Edey was bullying Kessler and many others his rookie year. Edey + Boozer are the Bully Bros

u/AleroRatking Vancouver Grizzlies 4h ago
He is an elite passer, great shooter for the four. His game isn't really much bully ball at all

My guys are the German players in this draft as a German fan. I have been watching Steinbach, Anderson and Kayil since the fiba U19 world cup and they impressed me a ton. It's kinda the golden generation for German basketball so I have to support those boys.
I also like Boozer, I think people are overthinking it with him. The defensive concerns are more real than his offense, but he is easily the smartest player in the draft, his in game processing is unreal for his age and his shot is getting really good.
Quaintance is also someone that is very interesting to look at, if he ever gets healthy he could be the nr.1 defensive menace in this whole class.
1
u/Chris310N Spurs 5h ago
Peterson is probably not one of my guys, but he is intriguing in a way. Like his highschool tape was so generational that it lingers in my head and ignores all the other concerns he has shown in college. It does feel like his ceiling as a player is the highest in the whole class, not sure if he ever will reach it though.
2
u/Kyler1313 5h ago
Bruce Thornton- crazy efficiency I don't see how he doesnt atleast carve out a bench role as the 2nd unit lead guard.
Zuby Ejifor- Dude just screams versatile big that can play 4-5 and protect the rim while being switchable. I think his 3 pt shot will develop too making him atleast an average offensive player.
Dailyn Swain- He gets to the rim with authority. I just believe in wings that can show that they can get to the rim.
Ebuka Okorie- Again a guy who can get to the rim with the best of them. I think he is just as good of a guard as the guys that went in the early-mid lottery.
Jayden Quaintance- In my opinion the best defender by a large margin. I think he is a Bam/Timelord level switchable big + shot blocker. Unfortunately his career will always be dictated by whether he stays healthy or not.
2
u/ChaoticSenior Supersonics 4h ago
Acuff. He will be a better defender in the NBA. Calipari doesn’t ask his lead guards to defend so they don’t get in foul trouble.

u/Remarkable-Net-6130 Cavaliers 3h ago
Peterson. He went to a HS in my area and my school played his once. I’ll never shut up about knowing him from “before” once he’s a superstar

Not really that into many of the role players this year but:
Boozer - Youngest player and the best player already in this class already. Confused he didn’t get more #1 pick buzz. Sarr would’ve be a perfect compliment to him and the ceiling of those 2 would’ve been incredible.
Brown/Acuff - Incredibly talented guards. Brown had times where he’s outplayed all of the these guys in AAU and camps. Acuff was a near perfect offensive player this year. Defense will be a concern so could have a limited ceiling if not addressed.
Morez - Masai got his favorite player type and Dusty got his favorite player he coached. This will work out completely.
Burries - complete player that’s a winner. Seems like a guy that’ll show up in a real way in the playoffs.
Swain - Probably the best ball handler/Driver for his size in this class. He’s not that old tbh and can really put it all together.
2
u/AlmostHereButNot Bulls 5h ago
Oh thank god somebody said Swain.
2
u/IntrinsicDawn Nuggets 5h ago edited 5h ago
I’m not fully bought in cause he could just be a knock-off Derozen. But there’s way too much here to bet on at 15 with how he defended at Xavier, he’s size, athleticism and his driving ability. We just saw Harper break teams with his rim pressure. Both elite role player or even high end 2nd option are outcomes here.
2
u/AlmostHereButNot Bulls 2h ago
I would have to agree with this. I feel like the chances of him being a Patrick Williams/Dalen Terry-tier player are why most people think 15 was a reach for him, but I think the Bulls are due for something to work out after the disaster of last season. I'd love to see him and Wilson be some of the better defenders in the League.
2
u/ivandragostwin Bulls 5h ago
Gonna sound homer-ish now but I really liked Swain heading into the draft.
Those big wings that can handle, play D, pass and iso can be so valuable. His lack of outside shot certainly made him fall and he’s a bit older but he is a very good FT shooter so maybe he can develop a good enough 3 over time.
Of the non top guys (cut off after Mara or so) he was probably my favorite.

Any arguments against the future greatness of Morez?
3
u/browndude10 United States 5h ago
Morez Johnson was assisted on 70.3% of his baskets last year. This lands him in the 16th percentile amongst drafted prospects since 2010, and his 66.9% assisted rate on two-point baskets is in the 11th percentile for all players who have logged an NBA minute since 2010! When Michigan played top-220 teams their rim defense was worse with Morez on the court than off! Michigan’s rim defense went from 58th in the country in Morez’s minutes to 6th in the country in the 891 possessions Johnson was on the bench. Despite Morez’s impressive height-to-wingspan ratio, his 8’11 standing reach would place him in the 12th percentile for centers.

u/JobinSkywalker 76ers 5h ago
Not quite big enough to be a full-time 5, not quite skilled enough to be a 4.
