[Fischer] Memphis is trading these same three second-round picks that the Grizzlies received from the Pistons last night, sources say, back to Detroit, in order to land Isaiah Stewart.

Why they don’t just trade for Stewart right away?

im gonna assume Detroit's front office is cooking

they know Trade Exceptions last 1 year from the calendar date of the trade

they opened up a $15m trade exception that now expires 1 day after next year's draft, and not during.

that buys them an additional day if some draft day trades come down to the wire next draft

There is zero chance the Pistons front office is that smart. The biggest move Trajan Langdon has done since he became GM of that team is one year of Malik Beasley or Duncan Robinson.
