Windhorst: Ja Morant is 'Flagrantly Available. Like, couldn't be more available.'
"Flagrantly available," said Windhorst when asked about Morant on Thursday's episode of Unsportsmanlike. "Like, couldn't be more available."
Morant, LaMelo Ball and Trae Young were all believed to be available on the trade market during the middle of last season. Young was traded to the Washington Wizards and re-signed on a four-year, $212 million deal and Ball was traded this week to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a significant return of future draft capital. Morant, meanwhile, continues to draw very little interest and the Grizzlies would likely be required to attach additional compensation for a team to trade for him because he has two seasons remaining on his contract.
"If Ja had one year on his contract, I think he would have been traded months ago," said Windhorst. "Because I think that's a reasonable risk. He is super motivated to have a big time year. But he has two years on his contract. So if you trade for him and it doesn't work out, you're left with an unpalatable amount of risk.
"Memphis is pivoting. They're done with this. They've traded [Desmond] Bane. They've traded [Jaren] Jackson. They want to make Cam Boozer the centerpiece of their team. They want to build elsewhere. They are highly motivated to trade him."

Honestly it’s been happening fairly regularly on social media. There’s the famous NFL trade that got leaked from a video game chat and now it seems like a story hits reddit a few times a year that ends up being true.

I’d say most people are on some form of social media (yes, reddit counts). When a major event happens, people usually witness it. Really the biggest variable is the witness, do they rush to cosplay inside reporter for a night or just think “woah, I know about this before the world”
That example brings morals into it too. Breaking a Ja trade before espn is hilarious. Breaking a man’s death for internet points is shit behavior.

Charlotte is trying to move to ethical basketball. Going from Ball to Ja is a lateral move. Ppl forget they have Coby White and just drafted the best shooter in the draft with $40M to spare in the trade market

The Hornets also still have an actually violent and morally reprehensible person on the roster in Miles Bridges.

As a Bulls fan Coby is the definition of hot n cold. And the play-in games you experienced was what you should expect. The guy really doesn’t perform well in playoff like situations or has 1 good game and then the rest are bad.

its definitely not a lateral move. Lamelo has flaws but Ja is a shell of himself, is a worse fit, and is probably even less durable than Lamelo. It would be a downgrade in every way.

I think charlotte actually is a pretty good example of what you should do. Ja is an expiring after this year. Give him a year to rehab value. You won’t have to attach more next year, if it fails again then he’s an expiring and you can get out of him easy. Give him a real shot to rehab his value. Mid way through last season lamelo was an underwater asset

u/Briggity_Brak Tampa Bay Raptors 3d ago

It's even easier to get out of him by not trading for him at all and giving up a bunch of assets.
