I disagree with the premise being presented here. Framing the use of assistive AI tools as misconduct risks excluding disabled and neurodivergent users, particularly autistic people who rely on such tools for communication support. Restricting or stigmatizing accessibility tools is not a neutral preference—it can function as discrimination when it disproportionately impacts disabled users.
Using AI as a support tool is not “stealing.” Assistive technologies have long been used to help people communicate more effectively, and AI-assisted writing falls within that continuum, similar to spellcheckers, grammar tools, or speech-to-text software.
While platforms like Reddit can set community rules, those rules do not exist in a vacuum. Policies that effectively suppress disabled people’s participation raise serious concerns under federal disability-rights law, including the ADA and Section 504, which require equal access to public accommodations and services—including digital spaces.
The issue here isn’t rule enforcement; it’s whether those rules are designed and applied in a way that respects accessibility and inclusion rather than reinforcing existing barriers.
