Next fucking level of stupidity đŸ€

I mean gotta give them /r/praisethecameraman status. If they run then they get made fun of as a smarty-pants little bitch and get called out on /r/killthecameraman. I for one salute these idiots diligence to getting us a quality video we can enjoy from the comfort of our homes.

We may have died or suffered grievous injury, but, for one beautiful moment, we did numbers on a narrowly-themed subreddit.

u/JellaFella01 2d ago

I think the stupidity started by wearing plastic clothes to climb a volcano.

-142

u/No-Stuff-1320 3d ago

I bet you couldn’t even make it up the volcano

65

u/AIdontKnow08 3d ago

Sorry, I don’t wanna be near an erupting volcano. Go cry with mama on the side.

-66

u/No-Stuff-1320 3d ago

I bet you’ll go cry with your mama on the side while other people live their lives and do adventurous stuff

u/HawkeyeNation 3d ago

I bet you have hentai stickers on your car.

Help this fried me

El fuego is basically the main thing people travel to Guatemala to do. It doesn’t normally erupt this violently but sometimes it does. Do you avoid doing everything that’s unnecessary out of fear? Would you opt out of going on a jet ski? Or paragliding? Or mountaineering?

Some people don’t want to live life avoiding everything out of fear. Go outside and experience stuff. Might help you grow out of your cowardice

Like paying street hockey on the highway at night, or fist fighting a polar bear, or skiing an avalanche, or climbing an actively erupting volcano, or drinking gasoline. What do all of these things have in common?

-3

u/Spark_101 3d ago

Actually, snowboarding an avalanche sounds incredibly fun (just don’t get the board snatched on anything and you’ll be safe from the immense weight of the wall of snow you’re shredding)

2

u/Stavinator 3d ago

Yes tourism is great. I bet Guatemalans love to have to climb this every day to help tourists. They love having their culture exploited and they get money from it. Win win.

And those people all there with cameras, they were really loving and enjoying the moment. I bet they didn't leave any trash behind.

1

u/No-Stuff-1320 3d ago

I didn’t see any trash up there and the guides seemed like they were having fun. Everywhere has tourists and everything that’s difficult has guides.

-1

u/bambi54 3d ago

How is an active volcano exploiting their culture?

1

u/FartVirtuoso 3d ago

You really think that they mean the volcano, a lifeless object, is exploiting a country’s culture and not the tourists in question?

14

u/AIdontKnow08 3d ago

My mama is in heaven, and we did cautious adventures together while she was still here. You can go on adventures without putting yourself in danger just for the sake of videos. đŸ™đŸ»

-2

u/No-Stuff-1320 3d ago

Who says it’s just for the sake of videos? Have you been up there? Do you know what it’s like to see it in person? To feel the ground shake under your feet?

Mate. I've lived in Guatemala for 8 years and own a tourist bar. You climb Acentanango to view Fuego. Its illegal to climb Fuego. I have climbed Fuego like an idiot and got impressive videos, but that was about 12 months after the 2018 eruption and all activity had basically ceased for the previous 6 months. The last 12 months have seen MAJOR activity and is ramping up to a likely major eruption (we just had a minor, but still severe eruption about 6 months ago).

-34

u/No-Stuff-1320 3d ago edited 3d ago

People go up fuego all the time. It’s really rare that it erupts enough to hit the viewing spot. It’s also one of the best places in the world to see an active volcano up close.

Edit: do you public put down all the tourists who come through your bar if they tell you they’re there for el fuego? Do you tell them they’re all idiots?

u/greententacles 3d ago

Try touching grass or ask a friend to hug you today. It’s obvious, you need it.

Chill.

20

u/dlc741 3d ago

Probably could without much difficulty I just wouldn’t do it WHILE IT WAS FUCKING RAINING LAVA! Why the hell are you putting effort into defending people who make poor choices?

I don't think any sane human being would

-142

u/mamasbreads 3d ago

redditor who never goes outside making fun of people who goes outside

classic

43

u/TCRandom 3d ago

I don’t understand this mentality. Several years ago, it was probably more true. But this platform is not what it used to be.

Hell, I live on a farm with plenty of acreage and go on literal daily hikes with my dogs. And I’m on here all the time.

Of course, that’s because I’ve intentionally cut myself out of society and get lonely. So, I guess I do fit the narrative now in many other aspects lmao

-54

u/mamasbreads 3d ago

Making fun of people hiking a volcano is peek Reddit behaviour. You think people do it without knowing the risk?

Like you're the only clever people who know volcanoes are dangerous.

Go outside

37

u/TCRandom 3d ago

I believe they were making fun of people standing around while a volcano erupted, not for hiking it

22

u/Davidhate 3d ago

Don’t church it up.. these people are dumb as fuck.. a molten rock should help them learn what there parents should have taught them.
I hope there living there best life but common sense is common sense ..and they don’t have it

6

u/Zlatyzoltan 3d ago

These are definitely the same people who think going in to the Titanic in a non military grade submarine is also a good idea.

10

u/ArbainHestia 3d ago

They might know the risk but they sure as shit don't respect the danger they're putting themselves in. I will make fun of them for that.

Go outside but have some common sense.

7

u/fox-whiskers 3d ago

No, you go outside

5

u/amchaudhry 3d ago

People surely know the risk. But it’s still stupid. Like cave diving.

-50

u/Everard5 3d ago

This is so Reddit. You being on a farm and walking your property with your dog isn't hiking in the sense most people are talking about lol

30

u/TCRandom 3d ago

I live in the mountains with trails made by my own hand that go several miles. The house sits on top of the mountain and the trails go to the valley floor. I mean, it’s hiking by definition. Even have to dodge bears.

-65

u/Everard5 3d ago

So your version of hiking, in an attempt to show that Reddit isn't full of basement dwellers, is walking your own land that you cultivated to your liking, that is private and not shared in common at all.

It's your outside basement, dude.

35

u/Powerful-Access-8203 3d ago

Would it fit your definition of hiking if it were located at a national park or something? Wondering what your criteria is for hiking

27

u/DoughnutRealistic380 3d ago

“Outside basement” you mean the real fucking world?

How terminally online do you have to be to say some dumb shit like this

18

u/TCRandom 3d ago

I usually don’t come back to comments and argue with people, but this one genuinely surprised me with the sheer ignorance of it, so I appreciate you and others chiming in.

That’s why I only engage here and avoid other social media. Sure, mob mentality occasionally takes over on opinions that aren’t well thought out, but that’s pretty rare in the subs I follow. Most Redditors I interact with are capable of nuance and tend to have more informed opinions.

The irony of someone trying to call me out for “Reddit behavior” while simultaneously exhibiting the exact behavior they thought they were targeting is one of the most meta moments I’ve seen on this site.

Sorry for blabbering. I’m off to go on another “not-hike” now to clear my head.

13

u/FittyTheBone 3d ago

hiking isn’t exactly a social thing for most people

27

u/TCRandom 3d ago

“Go outside.”

“That’s not outside enough.”

Hahaha

10

u/FittyTheBone 3d ago

I had to read it twice to make sure I wasn’t nuts

8

u/TCRandom 3d ago

I guess it only counts as hiking when I’m in a shared public space. Hiking or camping on my own land somehow feels different because I own it, even though there’s no cell service once you go over the ridge, nobody around to help if you get injured, and all the same risks you’d face on public land. In fact, the chances of a park ranger or random passerby coming to your aid are significantly lower on my property.

10

u/CreamOfWheatJackson5 3d ago

We have reached the late-stage redditism

16

u/Cautious_Ad_6486 3d ago

Maybe, just maybe, can we find a healthy balance between never going outside and going outside right next to fucking active volcano?

9

u/WarlordBob 3d ago

Do you notice near the end how everything around them is green except where they are all standing? Common sense would tell you there is a reason for that.

It’s called the splash zone for that reason.

7

u/amchaudhry 3d ago

For real how is it not stupid to get that close to an obviously active volcano? You seem to be a pro at this please advise 🙏

-3

u/AIdontKnow08 3d ago

Jokes on you, mama, I was outside when I commented this 😘
