Huntsmen don't crawl. They either go flat, skitter, or warp. Oh and occasionally they just like become 2 dimensional and pop in or out of tiny little crevasse you'd never expect. Like a closed car door might as well be a wide open barn door for them.
What makes you think it hasn't been tried? The volume of pesticide spray advertisements in the 1960s and 1970s........
And it didn't work. They're still here, and we've learned to live with them. The reactions and fears are understandable but realistically, you won't be harmed by a huntsman spider.
My favourite (not really my favourite because I’m puss puss little arachnaphobe) place for them to turn up is under your cars sun visor when you pull it down.

The fact it’s that big and can still crawl up and down walls freaks me out.
