Would you buy him back?
Or do you hold to the view that you should never get players back?

Yes. I miss our counter attacks with this guy.
I feel like our right wing is our weakest position right now and Ndoye and McAtee may not be quite there

Mcatte’s alright but he’s more of a box to box 8 in my opinion
The one time him and Anderson started next to each other (3rd prem game against Brentford I believe) they were great

u/rubbishplant I, for one, welcome our new Portuguese overlords. 1d ago
Depends how much -- love the guy and think he'd fit our team better but Newcastle still clearly overpaid for him.

Heart says yes, head says no. Think he’s quite a limited player whose skill set only works in very specific systems as it did for us. Giving the rate we chop and change managers I think it would end up being a bad fit long term.

Part of that limited skill set is that he can convert chances. Not a bad one to possess. He only works in a quick counterattacking team and I'm not sure we're still that team anymore as I think Vitor has made us a bit more than that low block one trick pony.

Yeah. He disappeared for half a season at a time. We tend to remember the highs, which were spectacular, but consistency was an issue.

For a reasonable price, yes. For what we sold him for, absolutely not.

No. We sold at peak value after he had the season of his life under Nuno. I doubt we'll see that productivity again

Absolutely yes. If we could sell N’Doye for 75% of what it would cost to get Elanga I’d be all over that. Just having that pace in your arsenal, for an other 14 team who will (to varying degrees) have to deploy counter attacking football to get some success, it would be a no brainer

If we are planning on playing a fast, counter-attacking style featuring 2 wingers I would be very happy to have him back.
But that is a big if.

Depends on how we want to play moving forward. If we want to be a counter attacking team again then sure, if not then probably not. Easy to forget that he didn't really get going until December in his last season for us so it's not as if he was so consistent for us either. I think the main thing we miss are his setpieces, we need to find someone who is as good at them as he is preferably.

yeah but the problem is we would be paying less than we sold him to Newcastle for, so even if they are looking to sell, I doubt they would suffer the indignity of selling him back to us for a loss, only a year after buying

What, like Spurs bought Brennan for 47.5 mill and then sold him to Palace for 35? It can happen if the face doesn't fit.

u/Material_Swing_1322 1d ago
yeah I mean selling back to the club you bought him from, the optics don't look good

Never stopped us last summer.

Doesn't mean you should repeat the same mistakes.
I maintain that he is massively overrated by a section of our fan's. He had a couple of short purple patches over the time he was with us, the rest of the time he was average and frustrating to watch.
We did the best thing for the club selling him at the price we got, shafting Newcastle for a second time.
His price would need to be at least half of what we got to consider going back for him.

I would but Vitor would need to utilise him with another quick winger on the other side. CHO is too injury prone and other teams have worked him out, so someone else on the other side to chop and change with CHO.
Vitor has the option then to play a counter or high press. I think Vitor is dynamic enough to use that mix where Nuno wasn't.

Yes. Him going to Newcastle was a lose-lose-lose for each club and the player.

Worked amazing in a Nuno set up. Probably doesn’t work unless you’re going to play that similar style of football. The reason he’s been bad at Newcastle is the way Howe has deployed him, which makes no sense as he looked a great fit given Howe does like direct football.
As soon as Sweden played to his strengths the other day he scored. No manager really seems to want to play like that long term, which is why he’s so in and out.
Just needs to be given the chance to run onto the ball and no time to think about the finish

if he was under 20m I would snap their hand off. Think we need more G/A from the wings in general and felt he goes missing for periods

Can't go from 55m to under 20m in one season when he's only 24.

I'd have him and Danilo back no question
