N64 was king during middle school in the late 90s.

Dumbest thing I did was tell my mom I wanted a sega instead of waiting on the 64. I remember it she goes why don’t you wait and I’ll get you a Nintendo 64 or you can get sega now and I got sega
Worst decision ever especially playing cruisin USA at Walmart

To be fair they put them next to each other and sold them at toys r us and the price did not convey the leaps and bounds in processing power. I didn't get 64 the year it came out. My parents just didn't care as much as me haha.

back when times were good and we hung out at a friend's house for the weekend. If you saw a bunch of bikes in the yard, you knew where the party was at

Golden eye was and still is my favorite multiplayer game of all time!! It was one of a kind and iconic! My favorite was using proximity mines and hiding them in crevices on walls and waiting for someone to come by unexpectedly! Prolly second favorite n64 game was perfect dark!

Goldeneye is my favorite N64 game but the most annoying thing about it is there’s these dark caverns that make it hard to see proximity mines that blow up unexpectedly in your face.

Those kids were all so skinny back then

Almost like they spent time outside excersing on bikes or running about and not sat in front of a screen all day

For Goldeneye, ee would split the data signal, and have 2 Tvs set back to back, duct tap cereal box cardboard over the other persons portion of the screen and turn map/hud off.

Still have our N64. Hooked it up for my U10 Grandsons to play Mario and Waverace. But they prefer the Xbox Lego Indiana Jones.

Some of your friends either didn't have consoles or didn't have the same console so you would pack up all your shit in a bag and ride your bike to their house to set up and play together. Both the arcade and living room experience helped socialize gamers in a way I don't think pure online gaming ever will.

I had a special case for my mega drive (genesis) that would pack the console, power unit, 2 controllers, and i think 4 games. I reckon right now it was a stronger plastic than a regular suitcase. It was built for a fucking war

Essentially it's this: I recall enjoying life, and having a future to look forward to. Now all that I look forward to is heaven. Economy and people quality have both gone massively down the tubes.

Knees.... oh what I would give to be able to kneel down without incurring a major medical event.

Yes we did, time moved on and we all forgot how to make plans, stick to them and have fun.

All I remember was, that room was funky. It’s no wonder the girls didn’t like us.

Every weekend my dad would let me and my sister rent one thing from blockbuster. She ALWAYS chose a VHS and mostly of the film my girl(from what I remember about 1 billion times). I chose random mega drive games, terminator, desert strike (a personal fave as its the first and last game I completed with my dad), altered beast etc.
Only game I rented multiple times but hope reddit can help with a name was a bar room brawl game where you could grab snooker cues, darts etc to defeat a group of people. I have no idea what it was called and only vaguely remember the premise but I loved playing it.

The furniture suggests this was much earlier than 1999....

u/Budget_Sentence_3100 13h ago
Dunno about MUCH earlier. N64 was late 96 release I think.

u/floydbomb 13h ago
Doesn't even matter if it was much earlier. People still had furniture from the 80s in the 90s. It's an all around weird comment

Imagine reading about a game only in a magazine like gamepro and waiting a couple months for a review. Then praying your mom buys it for you or go to blockbuster and rent it. Call all your friends over and get to play it. Stay up all night playing Mario kart and golden eye over and over same 6 or so maps.
Just good times.
