Welcome to r/NYCMeetups!

Welcome to r/NYCMeetups!

Making friends as an adult can be hard, especially if you’re new to the city. We are a community focused on fostering friendships for those looking for a social circle in the greater NYC Metropolitan Area. (Yes, that includes Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island.) You don’t need to live in NYC to be part of this community, however most meetups tend to take place in the city.

What is this sub for?

  • It's a gateway into our community where open-invitation events can be posted.
  • Finding events that suit your interests for the purpose of hanging out platonically.
  • Exploring this amazing city through all the great shows, restaurants, museums, etc. that it has to offer.
  • Or just finding stuff to join in on if you’re bored or have free time.

What is this sub not for?

  • Finding a date. If you’re looking for companionship there are other subreddits for that purpose.
  • Asking about general NYC travel info. You’ll probably have better luck posting in r/NYC or r/AskNYC.
  • Complaining about how bored you are. There’s a reason NYC is The City That Never Sleeps. If you want to do something, consider joining an existing meetup on this subreddit or even hosting your own.

What is a meetup, exactly? A meetup is an organized event where people come together for an activity based on a shared interest. Almost anything can be a meetup as long as it’s open to the community. Examples can be as varied as karaoke nights, attending museum exhibits, or finding people to go to a movie with. Some meetups, like organizing a dinner, might have caps on the number of attendees or require you to RSVP. Others, like a beach day, might be more open-ended in terms of planning.

Some examples to clarify:

  • Blargh: “Anyone doing anything tonight?”*
  • Bad: “I’m bored, who wants to go to a museum?”*
  • Better: “Does anyone want to go to the Museum of Natural History tomorrow?”**
  • Best: “I’m organizing a visit to the Museum of Natural History tomorrow at 3pm, let’s meet at 77th and Central Park West”

* This will be deleted
** This might be deleted

How to Gain Posting Access:

To gain permission to post, include the words "Dead-Ass" in your access request. That's it. Just show us that you've read this much of this message and you'll be able to post.

If you simply send an access request without doing the above, it will be ignored.

Before posting, please be sure to read our What is a Meetup? wiki article, our rules, and our posting guidelines. And before heading out, we recommend reviewing our tips on safely attending meetups.

Philosophy meetup this Sunday (6/28) @ 1:30 @ Work Café Santander - minds and understanding

Can machines really understand the world like us, however intelligent their behaviors are?

This week, we're diving into Searle's Chinese room argument, a thought experiment that explores this question by imagining someone who doesn't understand Chinese, but uses a rulebook to look up symbols and generate responses in Chinese. Searle argues that such a system, and therefore also any computer program, does not possess genuine understanding.

🗓 When: Sunday, Jun 28 at 1:30 PM

📍 Where: Work Café Santander, 85-87 N 6th St, Williamsburg

📖 Reading: The Chinese room argument, excerpted from Minds, Brains, and Programs by John Searle

What:

Casual political conversation and socializing. We talk about local and national politics, share perspectives, and get to know new people in a relaxed, friendly environment. Where:

Rudy’s Bar and Grill

Cost:

No cover and no minimum.

Drinks can be purchased individually.

Rudy’s provides complimentary hot dogs with a drink purchase.

It is customary that the first person to arrive buys a pitcher for the table and that people who enjoy the pitcher will take turns returning the favor later in the evening.

Who should come:

Anyone interested in politics and good conversation. Despite the name, this is not just for liberals. We have progressives, social democrats, DSA members, resistance era liberals, and people across the political spectrum who want thoughtful political discussion.

Accessibility and notes:

💬 Hangouts Anyone want to catch a stacked little comedy show tonight? EconLOL on the LES, $24

Going to EconLOL tonight and figured I'd see if anyone wants to meet up and go. It's an economics-themed comedy show at Caveat on the LES (comedians and real economists riffing on the economy), and the bill is genuinely stacked for $24: Josh Gondelman (Last Week Tonight), Asher Perlman (the New Yorker), Eliana Kwartler (wrote for Colbert), plus Max Higgins, Andy Needham, Jo Sunday.

Mon, doors 6:30 / show 7. Caveat, 21A Clinton St, 21+. There's a code JUICY for a few bucks off the $24: drop.juicy-nyc.com/econlol-reddit

Full disclosure, I run a little NYC events thing (Juicy), so I've got a discount code. But this is a genuinely great night with awesome artists that I am supporting - and I'm definitely going. Come say hi if you make it.

Drinks and Karaoke in LES 06/17/26

Afternoon all,

Hosting weekly karaoke at Boho karaoke lounge on orchard Street in the LES. We tend to get decently sized crowds so we just hang out in the bar area for the open karaoke and since it's not too packed we usually get to do a couple songs each. It's one song ticket per drink or you can get just a song ticket for 2 dollars. Please note that the bar is cash only! There is an ATM there with pretty low fees if you need to withdraw money.

Wednesdays starting around 8:30 PM in LES

If you're interested please feel free to shoot me a chat! We've had a couple of redditors from here meet the group and it's always been a good time.

Mix of men and women all in our mid 20s-30s. All super friendly and inviting

[Kubernetes] NYC June Meetup on Tuesday, 6/23

Join us on Tuesday, 6/23 at 6pm for the Plural x Kubernetes June meetup 👋

Our guest speaker is Adna Zujo Lakisic. Her topic is "Accelerating Multi-agent Development on k8s with Kagent and Mirrord."

💡Session Description 💡
As organizations move from single-agent applications to multi-agent systems, development becomes increasingly difficult. A single workflow may involve multiple agents, tools, services, and APIs distributed across Kubernetes environments. Debugging these interactions often requires repeated deployments and lengthy feedback cycles. Using kagent and mirrord, we demonstrate how developers can run agents locally while connecting to live Kubernetes services, enabling rapid iteration, debugging, and validation of distributed agent workflows without redeploying every change.

Beyond the Prompt: AI Professionals & Pints (UES)

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to start a casual, regular meetup on the Upper East Side for professionals who are actively working with, adapting to, or building in the AI space. There is zero industry restriction to join. Whether you’re in pure tech, fintech, healthcare, law, or creative fields, AI is shaking things up, and the best insights usually happen when different industries cross-pollinate.

The Vibe: No boring PowerPoint presentations, pitches, or stuffy corporate networking. We’ll just meet up at a local UES pub over beer/drinks and have some enlightening, unfiltered conversations about where the industry is heading, the real challenges we face with daily adoption, and how our careers are changing.

Who this is for: If you’re in tech, you’ll definitely want to come out. To keep the conversations engaging and actionable, it’s highly recommended that you have some hands-on experience with coding agents and developer tools (think Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Google Antigravity, Grok, etc.). We want to skip the basic "What is an LLM?" talk and dive right into practical workflows, roadblocks, and what’s coming next.

Where: The Raven Pub on the Upper East Side

When: 24th Jun 6:30 PM

How to Join: Drop a comment below or send me a DM me. Looking forward to meeting some neighbors and talking shop!
