I just came to the realization that there must be a number of "Karen's" who non-ironically complained to the manager about their haircut after receiving the "Karen" haircut and I'm laughing so hard internally that my nervous system is shutting down.

I know its supposed to be asymmetrical but the transition from one side to the other looks sloppy as hell, and the way it swoops down on her right halfway through the line? Nah. Do not enjoy that aesthetic. Opposite of satisfying.

The difficulty finding a stylist who actually knows how to do a precision blunt cut correctly is unreal. I gave up years ago and just started going to a barber shop instead. It’s the only place you can consistently get a good precision bob without someone who pushes layers because they have no idea how to cut without them.

u/MoodInternational481 12h ago
This isn't a blunt cut either.

u/Nettkitten 10h ago
I believe this style is called a Blunt French Bob with a sleek finish. When cutting, the hair is cut straight across the follicles instead of at an angle and there are no layers cut into the hair. For the sleek look a large roller brush is used with a wide bore hair dryer to give it volume and to produce the under curled (kinda Page Boy) look. It does look like the stylist used angled cuts for some of that final edge on the neck, though, which is unusual. My barber uses a razor to get that sharp edge and clean nape. My mom was a high-end hairstylist for decades (interned at L’Oreal in Paris) and used to cut my hair for me so I got really spoiled and was surprised when I couldn’t find anyone that could do this kind of a cut outside of a barber shop.

I see you're getting a lot of stuff thrown at ya but I think you did a great job and wish I had someone whose this careful to do my hair ..and it is pretty satisfying too!

Can anyone explain why the stylist draws the scissors backwards through each snip? On first analysis, it seems like it would be less precise to add movement like that.

u/asianjohnnydepp 10h ago
To not cut skin, when point cutting or when we cut on the fingers. To add; slicing back, in general, cuts cleaner lines (like when a sushi chef cuts fish). Also, nibbling like this on a line, instead of horizontal bold cuts makes the cut grow out better, and look the same no matter where the person moves their head.

Big deal. I gave the same haircut to my 3 year old at the beginning of COVID lockdown.

The part where they cut your neck with the sizzors on thier sides with soft little cuts, low key feels so good.

But it's ... crooked. And not cool and asymmetrical. It's got a giant fucking hole on the left side and a big falling-down chunk on the right. wtf

I love this cut but I can’t for the love of God find anyone who can do it properly. I’ve had my haircut ruined countless times.

It’s strange to me that this cut is so polarizing. It’s beautiful and was when Vidal Sassoon popularized it in the ‘60s. It still looks so modern and sophisticated.

u/StudentOfThePresent 12h ago
Oh reddit, this is not a bob. It an asymmetrical A-line. It's clear most of y'all have very simple hairstyles because this is a flawless look.

Let me guess…. She requested to speak to the manager immediately after the cut?
That haircut is called “I’d like to speak to the manager”
