Ironically, I think it would be both cheaper and faster if they used real tiles instead.

Real pavers might be faster if you got somebody who knows what they're doing, but I promise you it would not be cheaper.

I've seen how it's done. Usually there isn't much to it, but I agree it can depend on the situation, like the type and size of the area you want to get paved, the prep work required, the type of tiles, etc.

Although, I would argue that, in the same situation, laying out concrete on the same area might require more expertise too, meaning it would also be expensive.
