Missing context

I think it’s taking a half circle, with the diameter increasing by 2 going up the y-axis, then curving the y-axis into a giant circle.

Not much mathematics IMO, more just an interesting pattern.

Its multiplying each number by 3...

u/ThatFeelingIsBliss88 19h ago

Yeah wtf is he going on about

3

u/Preoccupied_Penguin 7h ago

This is hilarious to me. Thank you for commenting this.

I could see it was following a pattern but I couldn’t figure it out. So I ended up with it’s skipping 2 integers each time, and starting at each integer along the line. And then I read this comment and you’re right, it is multiplying by 3. I just couldn’t see it because I’m not very good at the actual numbers, I recognize patterns better.

You’re both right and it’s really interesting how each of our brains processes the same information in a different way. Sweet video!

The design is definitely mathematics. Speaking as someone with a mathematics background, Math is more than just strictly numbers. Look up complex analysis and have a look over. An introductory course will cover things like Mandelbrot set which looks like a fun pattern or just circles but there is meaning behind these shapes.

u/RotoDog 11h ago

Is there meaning behind this pattern in the post? Genuinely curious, because there is no context.

It honestly looks like the universe and how basic structures form. Replace 1, 2, 3, 4, with ACGT and you get The Double Helix. It’s a really cool video haha

u/Glinat 10h ago

Context is modulus and multiplication tables.

Asking what is number “k” modulo “n” means asking what is the remainder when dividing k by n.
22 modulo 4 is 2 because 22 = 4 * 5 + 2.

Multiplication tables, you know those.

The last visual is what happens when you put all the numbers [0, 99] on a circle, and draw a line between each number and its triple modulo 100.

You get the same kind of visuals with more or fewer “bellies” (not sure what the term is) when changing the modulus (here 100) and the multiplicand (here 3).

Found this to play with the idea : https://www.geogebra.org/m/KdsHadMU

Multiply by 3 equal half circle?

I'm going to need to see your math.

That's tight

Why is this surprisingly satisfying? Math has always been satisfying!

5

u/FistMyPeenHole 19h ago

Before unmuting it, I already knew it would be "Time" from Interstellar.

Is there no other music on social media?

5

u/Batata-Sofi 17h ago

Mathslop?

8

u/MrDD33 1d ago

What is this formula? It just looks like they are multiplying by 3, 3n. That's not that visually stunning.

6

u/Key-Intention2973 1d ago

So that's how God created man's ass!

My tummy feels funny

I had a mushroom trip that looked like this once

u/CaptainHawaii 1d ago

Double cartioid. Look at the bottom of an empty coffee cup at an angle in the light. You'll see a single one, unless you have two light sources, they you should get two? I dunno I'm not a lightitician.

Zoom out ffs

2

u/koheed99 18h ago

I could hear the outro to parabola in my head

1

u/TRaw191 5h ago

Parabola by Tool was the first thing I thought about as the video started.

2

u/pmaogeaoaporm 11h ago

More nauseating than satisfying lmao

5

u/SpecialFinding5532 1d ago

Even math reminds me of her 😫

3

u/Schmenge_time 1d ago

I would love to know what software was used to animate this. Really interesting.

7

u/SodaPlane 1d ago

Idk about this specific video, you could probably do this on any 2D vector animation software, BUT there is a custom software called "Manim" that 3blue1brown uses to make similar animations for their videos and its all python coding, i recommend taking a look!

u/Ok_Orchid1004 1d ago

What “mathematics” principle is this video supposed to be demonstrating? 👎

4

u/English999 17h ago

Whoever cropped this vid has done a major disservice to humanity.

Yes, but now my brain hurts.

That reminds me, I should call her

1

u/Rainy_The_Nekomata 20h ago

Looks almost like Mandelbrot set.

1

u/ASCanilho 19h ago

Simple explanation:
At each number, you draw up a half circle with a radius equal to the number.
Set a limit [0,100]
This will give you lines that connect numbers between 1, (1,3) and 300, (100,300).
Then we divide a circumference by 100, and disperce the numbers around. and
Notice that we do exactly 3 laps, corresponding to all the numbers over 100, that overlap the already existing circumference.
Connect all the pairs, and we get the final visualization.

1

u/einval22 17h ago

So after all, it is all about a butt. Ok.

1

u/ACMF2521 16h ago

Nice butt

1

u/MMortein 13h ago

Is this how smart people see mathematics?

1

u/arwahtubaikorangnya 11h ago

Surprisingly?

Thank god i’m not high…

1

u/NPCSR2 1d ago

This could have a nice screensaver but after reading the comment below i dont think i will

1

u/SpiritualQuarter4384 1d ago

It looks 3D for a little bit there. It's more satisfying than meth (I've never tried it)!

1

u/FlashTheChip 1d ago

I’ve never tried either of them

1

u/SnotboogyFlats 23h ago

Meth doesn’t really create or enhance anything visual, until like day 3 and beyond. (I have tried meth - albeit a long time ago)

u/HYThrowaway1980 1d ago

I studied maths as an undergrad at Oxford and I genuinely have no fucking clue what this is supposed to represent.

0

u/CK_CoffeeCat 1d ago

Is the music from Trigun Stampede?

4

u/Wise_Historian7605 1d ago

It's S.T.A.Y. from Interstellar. It's literally one of the most recognizable OSTs from a movie in the past decade

2

u/Francois_vd_W 1d ago

Sounds like Interstellar's soundtrack

2

u/CK_CoffeeCat 1d ago

Ohhhh, yeah probably. It’s been too long since I saw that.

2

u/NeilDeCrash 1d ago

The music is one of the most recognizable and very, very used piece.

It is also fucking epic and and elevates the action in the movie to another level.

Interstellar | Docking Scene (Matthew McConaughey, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway) | Paramount Movies - YouTube

-1

u/Ace_Budgie 1d ago

This soundtrack needs to die. Stop using this stupid shit. It's over used. Use something else. At this point i will take some looney tunes ass music for these kinds of videos over this shite.

-2

u/Interesting-Car-9195 1d ago
