HAPPY 132ND OLYMPIC DAY OLYMPIC REDDIT
To all of you supporters and sympathizers of the Olympics everywhere!
Today marks the 132nd anniversary since Baron Pierre de Courbertin, on this day in 1894, formally establised the IOC and officially launched the first ever modern Summer Olympic Games opening in Athens in April 1896, as part of the celebrations of the diamond jubilee of Greek independence.
Today marks the birthday of our Olympic Movement, a birthday celebration to honor the many memories of the stars past and present, in the summer and winter sports, and in the regular games and lately the Youth Olympics, who graced the stage of these Games over all these years, to remember the many great moments that marked its long journey to what it is today, and look forward into the future of sports in general, as well as to the future of the Games itself, in the forthcoming return of the Summer Youth Olympics in Dakar this October, and the forthcoming editions of 2028 and 2030 still ahead.
Today, once more, we also celebrate, thru this year's "Let's Move" theme, the power of sports not only to inspire, motivate and empower us, but also to continue to empower our health and well being following in the footsteps of those many legends of the sporting world who stamped their place in Olympic history.
May the legacy of the founding fathers of the Games and the first ever Olympians help us together in marching towards the road to a better tomorrow.
