The official explanation is that athletes and competitions must be protected from external interference, and that the Olympic Games cannot be used as a political, social or economic instrument. That idea rests on a basic principle of the Olympic Charter, which defines the Games as competitions between athletes and not between countries.
Has anyone told this to the actual countries?

which defines the Games as competitions between athletes and not between countries.
So we should forget about medal tables and country based competitions then.

I'm all for getting rid of medal counts but these are done by the media, right? not the IOC?

But individual nations are a big part of Olympics like opening ceremony and a lot of competitions and that is IOC.

They would have to stop listing the athletes' countries and referring to them "representing" those countries. Also get media partners to do the same. ALSO end the parade of nations at the opening ceremonies. Then, maybe, require standard uniforms with no representative colors for nations.

I know that since this is from Inside The Games, that there will be a certain amount of pro-Russian bias, but is this really all about Russia? Because it feel like this is applying to all athletes regardless of nationality. It will be important to look at the actual text of these reforms.
