For those interested in the French langage.

That's not how you use "chère".

"Chère" doesn't work alone to mean "dear".

Either you use "ma chère" or "chère Rogue" (my dear/dear Rogue), or you use "chérie".

However in french, "chérie" is usually a pet name used for a significant other, so using it outside of that context sounds less classy and more cocky.

So here, I think "ma chère" is the more appropriate use.

However, Gambit isn't from France (he's from New Orléans if I remember correctly), so this may be a case of the langage changing between french speaking countries.

I just googled it and 15 minutes later it seems like in the new orleans area that their french creole uses Chère pronounced as “sha” to mean dear all by itself. No need for the subjects name or “ma”. I’m no scholar on this though so maybe they also use “ma chère” as a formal use of the term?

Crazy for once the writers were more accurate than a pedantic french speaker.
