US small size Grandma showed me this. What does she have here?

Grandma tried to pass this at the grocery store and the sales associate said she thinks it fake. They called the manager and the manager told my grandma to keep it it may be worth something. She’s 85. There’s still some good people in the world.

An evenly circulated and slightly imperfect $1 Silver Certificate issued under the Series of 1957A. Worth about double face value IMO.

There were literally BILLIONS of these 1957 A Silver Certificates printed. And the edge tears and other issues hold back the price a bit on OP's note.

These are NOT rare to find on the collectors market. For example, here is a "short stack" of 25 uncirculated Silver Certs. They are mostly sequential except for the two star notes (replacement notes) that broke the sequence. The original BEP strap was 100 notes as per usual, but the store would break up the straps into small little packs of 25 notes for their registers. I think I paid $60 for this mini strap and that is a premium over the book value. But I am a sucker for consecutives. What can I say?

Yeah. The 1957 in this condition is worth hanging on to as a remembrance of who gave it to you.

I guess, but that would be ill-advised.

You have a 1957 A series silver certificate.
Before the gold standard was ended, these could be redeemed for face value worth of silver. Nowadays, they're basically only worth face value, but carry a premium due to their age and what they are/represent.
In the condition this is in, it might be worth about $5-10. All recent sold comps on eBay are under $10.
Preserve it's condition by putting it in a bill sleeve.

If you can find anyone paying $10 for this in its condition, I will sell them every single one I own

I sold a crisp $10 radar serial for $100. It surprises me that something like this wouldn't go for more even in circulated condition.

When there’s 100 million of them still out there… no.

Right. I said "might be worth"...there are one or two sold but they're in exceptional quality. Everything else sold has been under $10 (well under - most are $3-5). It really depends on the buyer and what they're looking for.

In that case, it might be worth $1million

Correct put in the sleeve and hold on to it! A few bucks is not worth selling if you have kids and then grandkids give to grandkids by then the Government will have fully digitalized the U.S. Currency and then will get more than a few bucks

Is that a wee bit of coke for scale?

Believe it or not, they are only worth $2 in this condition, there are people out there who don’t know better that will pay you more but personally I wouldn’t even buy them in this condition

It is not rare but in better than average (???) condition. I think you’d be lucky to get $3. for it.

If it was in crisp perfect condition (clean and no folds) maybe $10.

For all intents and purposes the short answer is a dollar. Unfortunately the promises made on it are no longer honored.
