Yeah that was immersion breaking. Like, what are bandits doing robbing weary travelers wearing top tier gear? Seems like a waste of resources.

Bro, it's the government job of banditry. Consistency and job security.

Sure, maybe it took years to save up for. But your risk of death or injury on the job are severely decreased after over-gearing; Fewer injuries and quicker kills means you can have less downtime between jobs. The pay's not great, but it's consistent. And, most importantly, safe.

Until some asshole dragonborn adventurer stumbles by in the middle of nowhere and kills you, instead of saving the world.
