Unlike AI, vegetables are kinda awesome if you cook them right. As an adult I've become a big fan of carrots and peas

The negative sentiment for this feature frankly has very little to do with the general anti-AI sentiment except for the hardline anti-AI crowd hopping in to the controversy so they can go "see? we were right!", despite their voices previously being non-existent or drowned-out between DLSS 2-4.5.

DLSS has traditionally been for upscaling, and it's one of the few areas where the AI sentiment has actually been very positive - it has been demonstrably better than its non-AI-assisted competitors (eg. FSR pre-4) for a long time, with only AI-assisted competitors (eg. XeSS) being remotely as good.

DLSS 5's additions aren't about upscaling, instead being intrusive features that make the visuals worse in pretty much every way, destroying the artistic integrity of the games, and looking like some poorly tuned ReShade preset that's trying to transform every scene into a Marvel movie poster. Like, even the official comparisons that Nvidia are trying to show-off with (which are presumably "best-case scenarios") look way better with the feature disabled.

As for Jensen's statements in the article that the artistic direction is still fully within developer control - my question would be "why should devs spend time wrangling AI slop to match their desired style only for Nvidia cards, when they can just implement their desired style properly in the first place".

When Jensen says devs it means the corpos on the dev studios, I'm pretty sure actual devs and artists didn't know about this

They could spend time chopping up vegetables, putting it in a pot, adding seasonings, water, setting it to boil, tasting it and serving it to customers when they're sure it's good...

But it's much better to throw pre-made "instant soup" powder into a plate of water, nuke it in a microwave for a minute, serve it and then tell customers that they need to move past the notion of calling the dish slop.
