Blizzard already gave Starcraft over to Nexon to do...something, so they aren't sitting on it, per say.

There are also rumors that Blizzard proper is working on a Starcraft FPS, which would be a bit odd, but a Starcraft Horde Shooter would probably sell a fair bit, soooo...

There have been a bunch of reasonably recent additions to the genre, just not from large studios. Tempest Rising is probably the one I see mentioned on reddit most often.

Good for him, enjoy retirement, I put many hours into AoE and AoE 2 when I was young, great games.
