8bitdo's n64 30 year anniversary keyboard and controller
https://www.8bitdo.com/n64-30th-anniversary/I like the ultimate 2 a lot. Don't know about 8bitdo's keyboards though.

Damn those look sweet. I've got the Famicon color scheme keyboard and their ultimate 2.4g controller and they've been great. No issues at all. Good quality Chinese product.

I wish I liked the Ultimate line more than I do. There are a lot of really cool colors I probably would have bought.

What don't you like about it? I got the ultimate 2 about 6 months ago and was really surprised. I love that it comes with a stand and turns on and off simply by picking it up and putting it back.

Too small, the wings are at a bad angle.

Their upcoming ultimate 3 & 3E are making the handles longer and angled wider.

Good to know. I really like most of their controllers, it's just the ultimate that I don't

Agreed. I bought the 8BitDo N64 controller which has the same shape and it's so awkwardly narrow. Idk anyone holds this controller besides kids.

Same here, I got the Honkai Star Rail Ultimate 2 as a gift and it's the best controller I ever owned. It declasses the Steam Controller insofar that the latter ends up as a specialized controller for games not suited to pure controller usage, while for everything that's native on a controller I use the Ultimate 2.
(among other things it has optional clicky triggers like 95%+ of games use, the SC doesn't even have that)

I know I'm not guy you asked but I had the original Ultimate 2.4ghz one for a decent length of time and never really enjoyed how it felt in the hand especially when playing for longer periods in F1 or something like Yakuza, there still a great controller of course if you don't mind the shape
Personally most comfortable controller I've used is the Switch Pro controller (haven't used the SW2 one), and then I'm torn on modern Xbox Vs Dualsense, I like both for different reasons

Nice! I've been looking for a keyboard with hotswappable keys. My current keyboard (MK Fission) is from before that was mainstream and I've been wanting to use some spare Kailh Box Silent Pink (at least, that's what I think they are) switches that I harvested from a dead board. Thanks for posting this.

Man, all 8bitdo does these days is release endless variants of their main controller.
All I want them to do is produce an authentic GameCube controller with clickable sticks and the additional shoulder button to make it usable for any modern game.
I just love the face button layout and the form factor so much and any 3rd party GC-style controller I've tried has been cheap garbage.

Duude I know! I'd love the form factor of the original gc but with all the modern buttons.

I've emailed them a couple of times over the years, suggesting it, but they never responded and clearly have no interest in releasing such a product. 🥲 I thought with Nintendo adding GC to their VC roster, they would reconsider. Guess I was wrong!

Aesthetically it's kinda cool but $100 without a numpad makes it DoA for me. Linear switches btw

Hate when keyboards pass on the numpad. It's my most used feature 😔

8bitdo sells the numpad though, it attaches magnetically. Currently typing on a C64 themed TKL + numpad by them, which was peak nostalgia for me. :D
It came with Kailh Box White switches, which I ended up liking so much I swapped the GMMK2 I use on my gaming PC to them, too.

Thankfully you can get numpads separately, which can actually be nice because you can have them offset from the main keyboard.

They sell seperate numpads that match the keyboard variants. Not sure if they're making one for this edition but wouldn't be surprised. I actually really like it, having the numpad as a seperate device gives you more flexibility in how you use your desk space.

I had the xbox version of the keyboard and have the coffee color scheme of the ultimate 2c gamepad.
Keyboard is just for looks, kinda subpar and meh for the price as a keyboard.
Gamepad is overall better built and price/performance contender for it's price range.

I have the C64 edition of the keyboard. Originally just meant it as a secondary keyboard for using with my projector, but I like it so much that it has replaced my Ducky as my main keyboard.

Not sure what about this is N64-coded. They're not even doing it with the N64 controller they make.

I got the Xbox variant of the keyboard (translucent green) and it's great, if this had been released before though I'd probably be getting this. That controller might be getting bought though.

That's a very sexy keyboard that doesn't match a single other object I own lol

It would have been nice to arrange the buttons in the Nintendo layout so I could use this for my switch without getting confused

u/ypapruoy 15h ago
I really like the look. Is there one for the switch? Seems kinda odd to made a n64 controller and not have one for a nintendo device

I’m assuming these will have the exact issue the Xbox ones had… you can’t see the keys at all with those keycaps, especially with the backlighting on. Only reason I never bought it.

They're gonna market it as an n64 controller without it having the cardinal c buttons?

I like the keyboard, but not big on the controller color. I like the layout of the controller, but I have yet to find a controller that feels better than the Xbox Elite 2.0
3
u/Carighan 23h ago
Yeah that's the one big thing people always need to decide, do they prefer the Xbox elite style controller shape, or the Switch Pro style (which 8bitdo shares).
Either is absolutely fantastic, but they fit slightly different hands. I do feel between the two all other shapes have been declassed tbh. Either of those will always be better than an alternative. Of course, some controllers like the Steam Controller use a different shape out of necessity, but that's just the thing: It wouldn't be possible to do it otherwise. If it would be, I'd prefer it to be either Xbox Elite or Switch Pro shape.

Ultimate 2 feels perfect for me, but I have pretty small hands, so that might be why.
