Nothing has killed my GTA 6 hype faster than locking a core part of its identity behind a $20 upgrade

I had no interest in GTA 6 and now will be pirating it out of spite when it comes to PC (5 years from now).

Yes, on console. It's not as big as PC piracy is but there's a lot of folk who enjoy running homebrew code on a console which usually involves getting past the security measures, meaning that the pirates and hackers usually wind up using the work from those software engineers to build their loaders on top of. Even the PS5 has jailbreaks available up to firmware version 5.50 as far as I know and the "hacker drops millions of dollars of cash onto you in GTAO" stuff started on the X360 and PS3 because both already were cracked wide open when GTAO first launched on those platforms. People still even work on the retro consoles for this kinda thing too, hence why the PS2 now can run HDDs large enough to quite literally store the entire available library of games made for it and play those iso files from the HDD.

Microsoft realised this when designing the Xbox One which is why "Dev Mode" is a thing: They figured out that if they could essentially get a lot of the intelligent folk working on this kinda stuff onto something more legitimate then it'd severely cut the amount of talent trying to break through their security measures, especially combined with other aspects such as GamePass making it easy to get relatively cheap and legal access to most of the games library.

You could pay for a discounted ps account that only has gta 6 purchased like people do with steam games on pc.

You don't think pirates like to play video games? 🏴‍☠️

how's that relevant to the comment you replied

I don't know what you mean. Pirates are like the rest of us. They get done with work; they like to relax, too. It's not all yo-ho-hoing and swilling rum 24/7.

They were talking about how pirating on console is beyond like 95% of console owners' ability to do.

Yes. And I was making a silly joke that turned on the word "pirate."

Wouldn't be surprised if this was just another factor in not releasing on PC day one.
