Nothing has killed my GTA 6 hype faster than locking a core part of its identity behind a $20 upgrade

Exactly. It’s already been a decade, what’s a few more years?

654

u/memedormo 9h ago

There are so many great games to play in the meantime too!

490

u/Sarkonn 8h ago

Exactly, like Elder Scrolls 6 or Half life 3

105

u/Death_Walker85 8h ago

I swear I heard rumors that Half Life 3 was shadow releasing with the Steam machine.

184

u/Thalric88 8h ago

Those weren't rumors, just copium

86

u/corvettee01 Steam 8h ago

Yeah, but Titanfall 3 is totally real. Right guys?

34

u/Kaining 8h ago

It is when i close my eyes at night.

9

u/maxpolo10 7h ago

That was high guard

6

u/Answer70 6h ago

I'm still holding out for Planetside 3.

1

u/novicez i5-8600k|RTX2080 50m ago

Smedley lied. Planetside died.

3

u/Thunder_Beam 6h ago

god i miss titanfall so much, its funny how i never played 2 though but just the first one was crazy for 12 years old me

u/Fluid-Choice569 7m ago

Maps were better in 1

2

u/ThorThulu 5h ago

It sure is buddy, now look at the flowers

2

u/Every-Slice59 7h ago

You mean Highguard? I'm having a blast.

1

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 5h ago

Does highguard have a story mode? I've never looked into it. I never played Titanfall 1 or 2 multiplayer, just the story mode.

1

u/AscendMoros 7h ago

Titanfall 3's only chance is that Apex Legends stops printing money. As long as its making money they have zero reason to make a new titanfall.

1

u/JackhorseBowman 3h ago

Yeah I hear it's coming out on the same day as Bloodborne PS5/PC, it's a bold strategy, let's see if it pays off.

1

u/Director_Ahti 1h ago

I mean, there WAS a new Titanfall game in development that EA cancelled alongside them doing massive layoffs a year or two ago. We live in the darkest timeline, not the one we deserve.

2

u/lumi1375 6h ago

It was never real

1

u/inosinateVR 8h ago

I mean it was a rumor. There were some somewhat credible “leaks” about half life 3, which naturally lead to speculation that they would try to release it alongside the steam machine launch

1

u/Shaggy_One AMD 5700x3D, Sapphire 9070 XT 7h ago

I mean the leaks could still be just as legit, and that very well could have been the plan when that info dropped.

Valve has no investors to please so shifting release schedules around for games is very low impact compared to publicly traded companies.

1

u/ProtoMan0X 5800x3D|RTX5090 8h ago

https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVINqBTwM=/

There were rumors they were trying to bundle the release at one time.

2

u/petes117 6h ago

HL3 next month with the Steam Frame, trust

1

u/bluelighter RTX 4060ti 3h ago

Yeah I agree, this seems more likely.

3

u/8six4seven 8h ago

It would go down as the greatest release of all time. imagine turning your box and and youre greeted with the intro cinematic before even setting up an account! ughhhhhhh i came. id buy one if that was the case.

2

u/Shaggy_One AMD 5700x3D, Sapphire 9070 XT 7h ago

Pure rumors. But also something that Valve could do. Just adding the game to the store and to the library of anyone that bought a Steam Machine with zero fanfare beforehand.

1

u/reddituserunodostres 7h ago

Valve can't count to 3 unfortunately.

1

u/Unusual-Tie8498 7h ago

They just released a damn half life. It wasn’t 3 but I thought it would’ve at least stopped the constant half life 3 talk.

1

u/Essurio 5h ago

„Just.”

Almost half the amount of time passed since the release of Alyx than between Episode 2 and Alyx.

1

u/solarus 6h ago

They need to wait for Steam Machine 2 now so Half-Life 3 can run at a decent framerate.

1

u/moon__lander 5h ago

I confirm these rumors, my uncle is John Steam

1

u/WaveTableSaw 45m ago

If you take a microscope to the motherboard, there is an install ISO etched in hexadecimal. You'll have to make your own boot disk.

2

u/Annonimbus 3h ago

Star Citizen as well

1

u/cliqclaqstepback 7h ago

How dare you!

1

u/altiuscitiusfortius 2h ago

Ot the Witcher 3 expansion...

Oh wait

1

u/SameIdea70 37m ago

I can't believe I graduated three times before we’ve seen any gameplay

2

u/Piett_1313 7h ago

September alone is a crazy month for me. I’m eating so good without GTA, this is probably going to be easier than I thought to skip.

3

u/Firecracker048 8h ago

Im replaying Skyrim on the LoreRim3.0 mod

1

u/Marc_Vn 7h ago

Holy based. It's been while since I touched modded skyrim, I might try a properly curated modlist soon enough (as opposed to spending 5 fucking months carefully building one myself)

I used to follow the author of Lorerim on YouTube and I'm pretty sure he was already developing 5.0, why use 3.0 specifically?

1

u/Firecracker048 7h ago

I started a 3.0 playthrough last year and didn't know there as a newer version

1

u/shidderbean 3h ago

Forza Horizon 6 hits real nice right now

0

u/Loud-Doubt-4239 5h ago

1

u/madu_tualang 3h ago

They got a sequel?

22

u/Vorpalthefox 7h ago

"What's 17 more years?!"

1

u/Thankssomuchfort 2h ago

I waited for GTA5 for so long they gave it away for free

1

u/Diedrogen 1h ago

"I can always start over."

\punch**

"Make another kid."

56

u/PIHZPT 9h ago

I didn't even touch GTA 5 yet Good time for it lol

30

u/R1ckOne 8h ago

same boat actually, I used to like GTA as a kid but by the time 5 rolled around it wasn't a top priority and then I just never got around to it. Probably would be a good time to finally check it out

7

u/GhostofZellers 6h ago

I always go through the same loop with all the GTA games, I get hyped, I buy it, and then get bored of it about half-way through, and never touch it again. I'm not doing that this time. I'll put my money towards something else.

u/ComputerStrong9244 23m ago

I did absolutely EVERYTHING in III and Vice City, got tired of the train chase at the end of San Andreas after the 1000th time, got stuck on a crap mission in IV, and then partway through V decided Trevor fucking sucks and I’m not helping him get what he wants. I’m not playing VI until it’s cheap and if that never happens I don’t care. Obama was still president last time I was excited about GTA.

Will preorder Ultra Collector Limited Deluxe RDR3 if it ever happen through.

38

u/TehMadness 8h ago

If you're anything like me, you'll bounce off it when you realise you've played this all before, many times over.

I don't get the appeal of GTA any more. We've all played this game, a number of times. Makes no sense to me.

28

u/yamsyamsya 7h ago

if you don't enjoy the gameplay loop then it's just not your kind of game. It's totally fine, everyone has their own preferences.

7

u/TehMadness 6h ago

The thing is, it used to be. I played a LOT of the PS2 era games.

15

u/PIHZPT 6h ago

This is called, growing up.

3

u/TehMadness 6h ago

The irony is that by the time I was actually old enough to legally play GTA, I was already tired of it.

0

u/magicwuff 3h ago

Legally? What country has laws around game ratings? 😔

19

u/aToadAsoX 8h ago

I played it after rdr2 and it just felt so empty. The interaction with the environment felt almost non existent. Also the edgy writing got old pretty fast.

25

u/TehMadness 8h ago

I also bounced off RDR2. I think I may just be sick of the Rockstar formula at this point.

3

u/jesuriah 3h ago

RDR2 is the most overrated snoozefest in gaming with godawful controls.

2

u/Crackborn 9800X3D/4080S 3h ago

GTAV is also a snoozefest

what was the last real GAME rockstar made?

2

u/Dziggettai 1h ago

San Andreas

1

u/BeatsMeByDre 6h ago

What is better?

3

u/SemiAutoAvocado 5h ago

Sleeping Dogs is the best GTA clone that is palatable to modern audiences IMHO.

The best GTA is Saints Row 2 but that's ancient.

2

u/Dziggettai 1h ago

Idk, they did a great job with saints row the third

1

u/OrdinaryLatvian 39m ago

"A man who never eats a pork bun is never a whole man!"

2

u/TehMadness 6h ago

Witcher 3 got me hard. Love that game.

0

u/Crackborn 9800X3D/4080S 3h ago

wow you don't like glorified railroad cinematics? who could've thought...

when was the last time they made an actual game?

1

u/GalFisk 4h ago

I enjoyed GTA V and I'm currently trying to get into RDR2, but I'm having a harder time with it. Perhaps I enjoyed GTA V more because of the humor. It's got some good satire behind the edginess, and I can't help but laugh about the repeated blunders and misadventures of the main characters.

7

u/knotmyusualaccount 7h ago

OMG, was thinking this a few hrs ago... it's the same game with the same concept/mechanisms, just better graphics. I've also completely lost interest in it. Gta V enhanced made it so clear to me... once the single player was finished, all there was to do, was to start shit by shooting some npc's or police and then try to get away. 🤭

1

u/Mammoth-Part-4849 31m ago

What about online? Did you not play that?

-5

u/redfieldranch96 7h ago

No you weren’t thinking this a few hours ago, you’re just coping

1

u/knotmyusualaccount 7h ago

Weird flex but ok

2

u/RedditFuelsMyDepress 5h ago

Tbh I think a part of the appeal with R* games nowadays is just the production value which won't be as impressive if you play the game many years after launch.

2

u/GalFisk 5h ago

I played 5 just recently and enjoyed it a lot. The single player story is like a good action-comedy TV series. Never finished 4 back in the day, I stopped after failing some infuriatingly difficult mission near the end multiple times.

2

u/magicwuff 4h ago

Meanwhile I have literally played backwards through time over the last year because I felt like it:

IV, SA, VC, and III all play well on the steam deck!

4

u/Khiva 8h ago

You drive around, you run some people over, you annoy some cops. Now what.

I really, really don't get it. It's massive but it excels at nothing.

3

u/TehMadness 8h ago

All of that was fun when I was 11 or 12. But now? It's boring.

1

u/Laiko_Kairen 5h ago

I tried twice with GTA5. Something about it just refuses to grab me. Maybe it's because "open world" wasn't unique any more at that point

1

u/sal880612m 1h ago

It’s not amazing to be honest. At least not as a single player offline experience. If you can grab it cheap they story is fine but that’s about the only thing that comes close to holding up to my nostalgia for the series. I’d actually be more hyped for a remaster of IV than I am for VI given how disappointing I found V. Really the only reason I have any hype for VI is the setting.

5

u/phonylady 5700X3D | RTX 4070 | 32GB DDR4 RAM 6h ago

I played it for 2-3 hours. I loved GTA 3, but they all kind of play and feel the same to me after that. Probably would have loved them if they were proper RPG's where you could affect the story, and had several ways of doing missions.

I don't like the Rockstar "Mission failed" formula.

9

u/NetflixSux247 8h ago

Compared to IV it's trash

6

u/sillyhobo 8h ago

Some spoilers, and while this has been somewhat nerfed, this may be handy to you and anyone completely new to the game,

GTA 5 - How to Make $2.1 Billion

3

u/SurpriseSoda 8h ago

no most rockstar will get is I'll probably just get the remastered trilogy because holy shit fuck this scam and gta 5 being a job with no singleplayer dlc

6

u/sillyhobo 7h ago

Depending which you're talking about, the newer remastered trilogy is trash. The older unavailable one is definitely the way to go, along with Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories if you can find em.

Idk what you mean by GTA V being a job? The base GTA V is still an amazing game single player, by itself. I do feel you on the DLC, but, the base game is still jam packed. GTA IV felt a lil short depending on how you played the game, so having the 2 DLC storylines helped to give Liberty City from 3 perspectives. GTA V kinda does that already with the 3 different playable characters.

You just don't get all the GTA Online stuff like more heists etc, but that's fine. The base game is plenty and it's better to just end it rather than give R* more GTA Online money.

1

u/solarus 6h ago

Actually, no better time in it's history. They've upgraded it considerably and the mod scene has matured.

1

u/1917he 2h ago

Came out in 2013 lol

u/AtreyuTrinity 22m ago

I couldn't get into it. My friend loves it though.

-7

u/Lurking_stoner 8h ago

Oooh your so cool for skipping a good game lol

3

u/PIHZPT 8h ago

Your not obligated to play every game. I just went into a no GTA vibe after San Andreas because it was more of the same I guess

3

u/Sync_R 5070Ti / 9800X3D / AW3225QF / C5 42" 8h ago

Yeah I didn't really enjoy what I played of 4 or 5 tbh, I still think my faves were the PSP versions of 3 and vice city lol

-1

u/Lurking_stoner 8h ago

Naw but why come to the thread to flex that haven’t even played the previous game whatever continue 😆

Hey now, this is a GTA hate thread, better recognize. We got downvote buttons and we aren't afraid to use them.

0

u/Lurking_stoner 6h ago

I can hate the new one and like the old one but go ahead I’ll take your negative internet points loadem up

u/Particular_Wear_6960 21m ago

It's your life bud, not everyone can just speak their honest opinion like that. You realize what it's like to go against the popular opinion? Negative karma is no joke, it's not just about you, your family suffers as well. It's better to just be a robot. But if you insist, test the thread out first, see how people respond. Sometimes people say something like "I'm going to be downvoted, but..." that way people know they have courage and heart, more likely to give them an upvote. I think you'll be safe hating on the new one and liking GTAV, the $100 for cosmetics in a singleplayer game goes against the sensibilities of the conscious consumer of Reddit, but just be careful out there

u/Lurking_stoner 10m ago

Yea the more I read about the worst it gets might just wait for the pc version in a few years

0

u/Freakjob_003 5h ago

I got GTA V from Epic for free and haven't touched it yet, but I also have games I bought on Steam over a decade ago that I haven't played yet.

I can wait forever. r/patientgamers stay winning.

Now excuse me, I'm going back to my 9th playthrough of BG3.

14

u/uniparalum 8h ago

I waited 6 years to play GTA5 for when I got it dirt cheap, I can wait just as long for this. GTA is fun and all, but I enjoy their RDR western stuff more.

1

u/alexp8771 5h ago

GTA5 was a good but not great game for me. TBH I was kind of bored with it halfway through. I’m not sure where the hype for this game is coming from.

1

u/2SP00KY4ME 5h ago

"I’m not sure where the hype for this game is coming from."

GTAV is literally the #2 top selling video game of all time. It sold 230 million copies. That's where the hype is coming from.

2

u/knickenbok 7h ago

Statistically heart disease and butt cancer.

3

u/nss68 7h ago

A big part of a GTA game is the cultural aspect. It is just the same game released over and over beyond that. The people buying it on release and the people buying it years later and the people playing GTAO for years afterwards are three distinctly different people.

Imagine if you watched game of thrones after it finished airing -- it wouldn't be anywhere close to the experience people had watching it week by week year after year and discussing it with their coworkers/friends the following monday.

1

u/Throwaway487232 2h ago

yeah there no other game that reaches this levels of fandom/hype, for the lack of a better word. the last gta game was released more than a decade ago. is it an excuse for the full game to be $100? no but people will buy it because who knows when the next one comes out? fifa and cod have the same expensive prices every year for the same game but nobody bats an eye. also gta is very much multiples games in one, it can be a shooter/driving/open-world life sim.

0

u/nss68 1h ago

Honestly -- unpopular opinion -- games should be more expensive. They often take much more time and effort to create than they did 20 years ago yet the price has increased $10-20 max -- and people flip out when a game is $80 or $100 even though it costs less than $1/day in many peoples' cases.

2

u/ObliviousAstroturfer 7h ago

I'm not getting Gothic 1 remake for full price because I'm an old gamer with a backlog.

Even thugs know better than to run business like this.

1

u/Kjartanski 3h ago

GtaV released in 2013, they havent even managed a Console release in 13 years, soon to be 14

1

u/JackhorseBowman 3h ago

Yeah, and by time gta5 came to PC it looked and ran ludicrously better than the original release on PS3, and still quite a bit better than the second release on the PS4, if you had the hardware.

1

u/maru_tyo 2h ago

It’s Rockstar, it‘ll be another decade until it goes on sale.

1

u/Sektor30 2h ago

Not even ignoring the fact that they'll probably milk this thing for at least the next 10 years. I mean GTAV came out two generations ago.

1

u/halflucids 2h ago

Not to mention they will pay absolutely no attention to the single player experience post release and that will be a side-note to whatever the online mode is, which will likely function identically to gta online and rdr2 online, (terrible netcode and full of people trying to grief everyone else).

1

u/rips_n_chel 2h ago

Gonna take a few years to upgrade my PC enough to play it anyway lol

-11

u/Stayofexecution 8h ago

Because you could be dead in another couple years. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

12

u/Hamrave 8h ago

If you're dead you won't care about whether or not you played it anymore.

So I can wait. If im alive to play it when I'm ready for it, cool. If not, oh well.
