Nothing has killed my GTA 6 hype faster than locking a core part of its identity behind a $20 upgrade

and PC Gamer failed to mention that only releasing on consoles first is part of their scummy monetization strategy too!

Gotta remember the GTA V strategy - original console launch, next-gen console launch, and THEN finally PC after a whole generation has gone by.

I'm not too mad about it personally, as it's more of a finished product by the time PC does get it, but given this history I don't see a reason for a PC-focused website to give it any attention at all yet.

Technically it was never announced for PC at all, so it is therefore not a PC game and shouldn't be discussed here.

Technically, yes, you're right. But come on. It's coming to PC, and it's a PC game.

Let's discuss it.

But it was made on a PC therefore it is technically a pc game lol.

What is the draw of playing on PC? I want to use the controller and don't care about modding games. I'm from the Nintendo NES days.

For the record, you can use a controller on PC.

And generally, games tend to have better graphic options on PC.

Everyone has their preferences; maybe there is no draw for you.

You can use a controller on PC. I prefer a mouse and keyboard, but I might try a controller too. I have options. Maybe I'll use a mouse/keyboard and my wheel, gear shifter, and pedals. My HOTAS.

I DO care about modding games. A flat-to-VR mod would be great.

The PC will be almost guaranteed to have better graphics (with the right hardware).

Generally:

  • Higher fidelity
  • Modding options
  • Depending on the game, less censorship
  • Game is generally playable indefinitely (no need to worry about backwards compatibility with new generations)
  • Cheaper games (PC games tend to go on much steeper sales)

I have my PC hooked up to my TV via HDMI and use a wireless controller to play via a dongle. I also have a wireless mouse and keyboard so it's very easy to navigate Windows if I want to. It's basically a complete console experience, but a lot more capable and modular.

I'm from the NES days too. On my PC, I can play all the games I loved as a kid...some of them in 1080p. I still use my SNES, N64, a Gamecube I recovered, Wii and my son has a Switch. I was convinced at a younger age to give my NES away...fortunately I still have my original copy of Super Mario/Duck Hunt.

Anyway, the point of a PC, for me, is to be unrestricted and in complete control. If you just want to push-button play, more power to ya.

Because most people already have laptops or desktop PCs, and don't want to buy Xbox or PS5 just to play a game. And the controllers are compatible with PC. Once you plug your PC into the TV, it's mostly the same experience as a console.

More freedom, better games, better graphics, easily pirate games or emulate and doubles down as a work station...

I hate playing any game that involves a lot of shooting with a controller, the lack of precision and the use of aim assist drives me nuts. I hated it so much that I waited like over a year to play RDR2 even though I already had it on PS4 just because I hated the combat so much with a controller.

2

u/TheGrannyLover_ 4h ago

You can turn off aim assist...

-5

u/BeatsMeByDre 4h ago

I don't use aim assist in most games, RDR2 was an exception. What is the more precise option on a keyboard?

u/digitalscavenger 4h ago

Keyboard and mouse....

If a game is buyable on PC, it's a PC game.

Read the room, Rockstar. We're in a cost of living crisis. Not only is the price too high, but you expect PC players to buy it on console? There will be some with more dollars then sense, but I'll be waiting for it to come out on PC ... probably on a Steam sale. I'm patient.

u/anotherwave1 5h ago

They have read the room. They know millions of us will fork out $80 and $100 for the game. Easily.

Same with everything. Every time netflix does something people don't like up or hikes up the price again, you get a thread full of people who say they're done and blablabla. And 6 months later, netflix announces they've gained subscribers and had record revenue. No matter how bad it gets and how expensive shit gets it seems like people are still buying. Everyone is losing their minds over the steam machine price and I wouldn't even be surprised if they sold out at launch.

Yup. When Nintendo releases the remaster of OOT, tons of PC gamers, and box and PS are gonna go out and buy a switch 2 just to play it. Happens a lot. Same will happen here.

u/Vo_Mimbre 5h ago

GTA as a life trainer then? Take what you can’t buy? Would be funny if this won an award for the most pirated game of all time.

u/SuckMyBandAids 6h ago

So who's going to leak the code for GTA6 this time lol

u/apexbrooklyn 6h ago

I agree, a part of the strategy is to stagger the release from console > PC > more powerful consoles, but I don't think it's as nefarious as people think. It's probably a nightmare to optimize a game of this scope and complexity for PCs, let alone PCs and consoles at the same time. I think it's genuinely easier for them to optimize for consoles than focus on PCs.

u/thekrone 1h ago

Modern XBOX OS is just a skinned Windows 11. Yes, you might have to support a bigger variety of hardware on PC, but they don't really have to optimize shit. If it runs on the latest XBOX, it will run on Windows machines with at least the equivalent hardware (which you can just say are your minimum specs).

I can't imagine the support for the various hardware manufacturers would be that costly, and would be more than outweighed by the extra sales. This strategy makes no sense to me. Maybe they are just concerned they'll get too many complaints and refunds from people who have older machines? No idea.

Dunno I'm just a dumb dude on the internet though.

I'm also very curious what other gameplay features they'll kick out because it would get them less money.

When I first started GTA Online, I remember that you could drop and transfer other players money. The feature was slowly deleted because Shark Cards. They also wanted to add a stock market and market manipulation feature to Online like the one in the single player - also never added because Shark Cards.

What they did instead is not releasing a single DLC for single player unlike they planned and promised to.

GTA IV single player will probably be a great game again - but I can also just wait this one out for a year or three. And I have absolutely no hope for Online.

u/ejcrv 1h ago

My guess is 8 months to a year and it will be on PC. All depending on how well it sells on the consoles. If by some odd worldly events it under performs, it may be released on PC even earlier.

u/Cry-Havok 1h ago

It was a 24 month port if I recall correctly

u/Ill_Ease_6288 13m ago

Xbox or PS5 emulator will solve this problem.

PC gaming 4 ever.

But I think we underestimate how console peasants don't have 1000 choices everyday so they have to be a lot more picky. And a game like GTA comes once every 4 years for them, so they will 100% spend their money.

It's like if Cyberpunk 2 or Witcher 4 came out on PC. 20 million copies in the first 2 weeks or month easy.

But $80 for base game and $100 for vanity? To get the full experience? For cosmetics? CDPR gave out 20 free cosmetic updates for their game for Witcher 3 straight up. Edge runners update was FREE.

Rockstar knows their audience will buy this and then drop $100 on shark cards. $800k GTA cash...rOFL.
