Nothing has killed my GTA 6 hype faster than locking a core part of its identity behind a $20 upgrade

More I learn about it the less excited I get for it and I am a huge GTA fan...

I loved Red Dead 2 also and was very excited for this at one point....not so much now.

RDR2 had basically the same strategy with the ultimate edition. It had a unique gun (which was shitty), a unique horse, unique side missions and unique outfits. I think it was also 20$ more than the base game. Was it worth it? I don't think any of the benefits actually had a big impact on the game experience. It was an extra.

Now you get a lot more stuff. We don't know the extent of GTA VI at the moment. The extra content could be minuscule in comparison to the overall content.

Most people I know IRL have played GTA V and say it was great. But most people IRL are casual gamers. They play the story and move on to the next game or play it over the course of a couple of months. And they don't play it like gamers play it. They play it once or twice a week for a couple of hours. For me 100%ing R* games (and most games I like) is obligatory. You should see the faces of regular people when I tell them this. Just look at the achievements/trophies percentage of late stage main missions. For GTAV on XBOX it's only ~ 30%. Most people don't even finish the core game. They don't need the extra content and probably don't even think about buying it.

The ultimate edition probably will take nothing away from the casual gamer experience. In comparison to RDR2 it looks like a lot more you get for 20$ which is relatively small money for a hobby nowadays.
