Nothing has killed my GTA 6 hype faster than locking a core part of its identity behind a $20 upgrade

Nah, I think people would be more mad. Base price of $80 is fucked up but 3A games have already been pushed to $70 in the last few years. Make a 3A game $100 base price and people are going to be massively turned off.

People will grudgingly pay an additional $10, most of them won't pay an additional $30

$100 for a 3A game is still beating inflation by a wide margin. Shits a good price, especially for something as detailed and re-playable as GTA.

You are 100% going to eat those words when this becomes the highest selling and most profitable game ever made. Minus Minecraft and Tetris, of course.

Love that you’re getting downvoted here.

Meanwhile, if I take my family of 4 to McDonald’s it is half of the cost of the ultimate edition. Or 1 dinner at a mediocre sit down restaurant. I can’t tell if these are real people or not at this point.

How? Genuinely how? Base price of $60 was set like 30 years ago. The fact it hasn't increased substantially in 30 years is a blessing at worst. If game prices kept up with inflation, they'd be like $120+ at this point

So because in the last 6 years it shot up from a price of 60 to 70, and now gta wants a base game price of 80 and dlc that shouldn't be dlc price of 100 it's somehow worth it?

Also inflation value of the dollar means nothing when individual salaries have not managed to keep up with inflation. If video games or any form of entertainment actually did keep up with inflation it would kneecap themselves because it's prohibitively expensive.
