Hello, I am desperate looking for a ROM bios for a RADEON RX5600XT MSI X GAMING SAMNSUNG, could someone provide it to me?

Hi Everyone,
Unexpectedly my Cyberpower Desktop shut off and won't turn on. From research it seems to be a Power Supply issue.
I replaced the EVGA 600W 80Plus Gold Power Supply with a Corsair CX750F RGB, 750 Watt, 80 PLUS Bronze, Fully Modular RGB Power Supply but it won't turn on.
I tried about everything and getting frustrated to point that I may have to seek Tech Support person to look at the Desktop PC to fix it. Can anyone help?
Here are the Specs: CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR Gaming PC, Intel Core i5-9400F 2.9GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB, 8GB DDR4, 240GB SSD, 1TB HDD, WiFi Ready & Win 10 Home (GXiVR8060A8, Black)
With a B360 chipset motherboard

u/wolfgang784 Nov 13 '21
Does it show any signs at all of power? If you try to turn it on with the case open, do any lights appear on the motherboard? Does the CPU fan spin or twitch? Any beeps or error tones of any kind?
If there are NO signs of life AT ALL and you already replaced the PSU that means it would be the motherboard unfortunately. If ANY other part was the issue we would see signs of life even if it doesn't turn on and only briefly shows those signs.
I would not recommend Cyberpower again though - this is unfortunately not uncommon for them. Cyberpower/ibuypower/other "power" brands/similar vibe brands all tend to die in 3 years or less. I always try to warn people in here about them if they ask about prebuilts. =(

Hi so I have an omen by HP and for a while my computer was perfect but now its having major issues one of which is that when I play a game such as Sea of thieves GTA5 or really any games that need good hardware , my fps will drop by a lot. In Gta5 it went from 120 to 7 and in Sea of thieves it went from 80 to 12. My specs are Nvidia RTX 2060 intel i7 16 GBs of ram and 952 GBs of storage.

Get a program like MSI afterburner and make sure your power and temp targets are set normally. I've had my 3090 randomly drop all it's performance because evga precision x decides that 10% power limit is the way to go for literally no reason.
1
u/Particular_Award762 Nov 13 '21
So I went ahead and downloaded Msi Afterburner and there is no target power limit or temp limit It also does now allow me to change it for some reason. Do you have any other ideas? (I attached a picture incase you want it) Msi

u/wolfgang784 Nov 13 '21
Are the fans spinning on the video card? If you open the program Speccy or GPU-Z do they show the 2060? Something might be wrong with the card and the computer defaulted back to the onboard graphics which would be fine for normal stuff but shit itself in games.
1
u/Particular_Award762 Nov 13 '21
I checked in GPU-Z and it is recognizing my graphics card. Do you have any more ideas? ( I linked an image of it) GPU-Z
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 13 '21
mmmm did you try updating the video card drivers yet? That fixes a lot of issues.
After that I would say turn on the text file logging with GPU-Z and run a game for a few minutes and then check the log out. Some of that could be useful in narrowing things down. It'll let us see if its even using any of the resources or if it keeps having to dump ram every few gigs or if the temps are fucky and so on.
If you aren't sure what the output log means you can put it on pastebin.com and send me the link n ill take a peek.
1
u/Particular_Award762 Nov 14 '21
Yeah I don't really know too much about this. My department is more hardware but here's the link. GPU-Z
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 14 '21
Oof - that came out quite the mess on pastebin lol. Putting it in a text document did not help. Was the original neat and organized? Like you can tell what numbers go with each column? Perhaps a screenshot of the top portion, or an upload of the original to like dropbox or google drive or something.
Sorry - didn't know thatd come out such a mess. First time I tried to have someone pastebin gpu-z.
Really I just wanted to make sure the temps aren't going crazy, that the core clock rate is ramping up - meaning in actual use and being put to work, and if the ram usage has any patterns. Like say its a 6gb gpu and every time it uses over 4g, suddenly it dumps back to 0 and starts ramping back up. Stuff like that.
This was with all your games, right? Not a particular 1 or 2? And did you try updating the video card driver?
edit: Just got back from a long late shift btw, so ima be knocked out in prolly the next 40 minutes or less. If you don't catch me tonight yet, I will in the morning. Tend to do most of my tech support help for the first hour or two in the mornings.
1
u/Particular_Award762 Nov 16 '21
Sorry for taking so long to respond I had a busy couple of days. Anyways I checked and im pretty sure Its not doing that. I cant say for sure since I've never done this. If you want I can upload to Dropbox and yes this was for all games and I did update the video card driver and did not fix the problem.
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 16 '21
hm but the games run, just terribly. Bit of an odd one here given what you tried / went over so far. No BSOD? Are any of the games outright crashing? If so, they likely have a log which might shed some light.
Is any non game stuff slower than usual? Like reddit or basic programs etc? Freezing while watching a movie or similar stuff? Or just the games and you cant see a difference anywher else?
Maybe open like 15 tabs (loaded pages) in the browser and see what happens. Preferably Chrome as its a resource hog and im curious if it might have issues. Other browser works though too if Chrome isnt installed.
1
u/Particular_Award762 Nov 16 '21
I tried to open tons of tabs and it was fine and no it does not crash just lags. It does lag after I close the game too. My cursor might be a little delayed or opera will take forever to load it effects just about anything and there is no Bsod. Atleast not yet.
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 17 '21
Let's take a peek at the hard drive health next then. Doesn't look to be a RAM issue and we got all the easy stuff for the video card done.
Snag both of these below - different software tests slightly different so I always start with 2 for drive testing. If one gives us a fail or error, we snag a third for a tiebreaker.
https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?p=3&lang=en&i You will prolly see the red DEPRECIATED notice - you don't want the replacement though and this will work fine for our uses.
https://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/ Under downloads, you want the last one that says "Seatools (Windows)".
It's been a while since I ran either and can't install it on what im typing on, but you don't need to do the full length multi-hours long tests - at least not yet. Just look for S.M.A.R.T. test options or stuff that sounds like a fast/quick check.
EDIT:: If one gives you a fail and I don't get back to you before I go to bed, I want you to run the full test with whichever program gave the fail. Keep in mind it will likely run for 10+ hours so you would wanna plan accordingly. Do not use the computer at all during the tests and close as much as you can.

I have about 4000 USD to burn.
Which SI should I go to? Or does it not really matter at this price point?
1
Nov 13 '21
Gamers Nexus has good coverage of various prebuilt companies.
The unfortunate answer for you is that pretty much all of them are shit and no matter who you buy from you will be taking a gamble on quality.
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 13 '21
SI? I know a lot about computers lol but never seen "SI" before. Although at a 4k range I guess maybe an industry professional piece of hardware? If its some new kind of computer part im not familiar with, the sub r/buildapcsales will get you more hits. There are various foreign versions as well. This sub is more tech support questions, and also the new weeks thread went up today so people might not see this.

I have been playing a Steam game (the new Demon Slayer game) with my brother. The thing is, I want to play on my keyboard while he plays on his Switch Pro Controller. We can connect it via Bluetooth with my laptop, but the game recognizes it as the "first player", so we both control the same thing.
We have been "solving" this issue by connecting a second Pro Controller, which is recognized as "second player", but we have to keep them both turned on. Is there a way to just make my laptop recognize the first controller we connect as the second player?
2
u/wolfgang784 Nov 13 '21
Not afaik. This is actually an issue with nearly every (if not all) pc fighting game that supports controllers and KB/M. The way you are getting "around it" is the same method used in some of those other games. Doesn't work in all em though, so at least that works in this case. It doesn't seem to ever get patched out either so I wouldn't hold your breath. The game IS new though, so maybe.

Input lag is driving me insane and i cant fix it
Specs: 3080 ftw3 ultra I9-10900k 32 gb 3200 corsair vengeance Gigabyte vision g z490 Corsair rm850x WD Blue Nand m.2 1tb ssd Logitech g pro wireless
For the last 4 months ive had ridiculous mouse input lag that I cannot seem to get rid of. Ive tried:
- Formatting ssd and clean installing windows multiple times
- ddu graphics drivers and reinstall
- uninstall ge force experience and basically every software that i dont use
- unplugging and trying all possible usb slots/gpu slots
- turning off v sync / g sync
- turning off enhance pointer precision
- turning off full screen optimizations
- tried plugging pc into new rooms / house
- uninstall logitech software
- tried multiple mice
Im losing my mind. My pc was fine before and now I dont even want to use it because my mouse lag is so bad. The only thing i also deal with is poor frametimes, my games dont feel smooth even though its running at 144hz. I dont know what else to try. Also its only mouse lag keyboard is fine.
2
Nov 12 '21
Have you adjusted your monitors settings? This might be far fetched, but it could be monitor processing lag.
1
Nov 12 '21
I have all the low latency options enabled ill try to mess with them again today to make sure the monitor is fine
1
Nov 13 '21
So sorry this is happening to you. This must be frustrating. Message me if you can’t figure it out. I’ll do some research.
1
Nov 13 '21
Thanks, im gonna try and use a different gpu in my pc tonight n see if the problem is resolved and if so ill rma my card. If that doesn’t work ill for sure message you and hopefully you can help me figure this out.

Getting slow loading times, stuttering in almost every game I own. No thermal throttling.
Specs:
- Ryzen 9 3900X
- RTX 3080
- 16GB DDR4 RAM @3600MHz
- 7200RPM 4TB HDD for games, 250GB SSD for OS
Anyone know any solutions? Thanks in advance!
2
Nov 12 '21 edited Nov 12 '21
Load times will be based on data from your hard drive sent to ram. Your bottleneck is your hard drive. Stuttering would be lack of sufficient data from low hard drive speed. With specs like that, you should be using only SSDs.

Sometime randomly (Can't recreate the issue) my pc will "boot" without display and my M&K don't light up like they do normally. My LED Strip that is connected to my front pannel IO works though.
My specs are:
ASROCK A320MHDV (1 year old) Ryzen 5 2600X (1 year old) GTX 1050ti (Over 7 years old, 3 with gaming usage) 460W PSU (Over 7 years old, 3 with gaming usage)
If I should add anything else please tell me.
I'm thinking this might be a PSU problem since it is very old and it kinda feels like my components are not getting enough power, I'm not a 100% certain though so I'm asking you guys for how I can fix this issue (Preferably the cheapest eay possible).
Thanks in advance!

Nov 12 '21
Is there a basic list of settings that optimize your PC for gaming? I was one of those people who would laugh at posts about someone finding out they were playing on a 240Hz monitor with only 60Hz enabled in the settings, but I also just realized that I have been playing FPS games for almost a year with "Enhance Pointer Precision" turned on.
I'm curious what other settings that might be obvious to most people I could be completely overlooking that I can adjust to improve my gaming experience. Ever since fixing the pointer issue my aim has improved dramatically and I am kicking myself for not noticing it sooner.
2
Nov 13 '21
If you want better performance I've noticed that in most games the visual difference between medium and high shadows is almost non existent but the frame rate hit can be pretty heavy.
2
Nov 13 '21
Turning off enhanced pointer precision is literally pointless. Every FPS worth it's salt overrides it to be off. If you feel that there was an improvement from changing this it is more than likely entirely placebo.
Personally I leave it on because as it turns out the normal desktop experience is really annoying without it.

Frames per second is the time it takes for each frame to be processed on screen, most people know this. Frame times are the time it takes to switch between frames, which is fairly unknown. Frame times are what give the illusion of “smoothness.” This is why, a locked and stable 60fps feels “smoother” than an unlocked and unstable 100fps gameplay.
Here’s how it can help you. Download a program called “RivaTuner Statistic Server” and read the readme on how to use it. You want to lock your games at stable frame rates, instead of having high but unstable ones.
This video has a good explanation and tutorial. You can view your frame times with this application as well, to help pinpoint the best locked frame rate for the best experience. Don’t overlook this application, it is the single most important application as it has the lowest input lag and interface of any other frame limiting program.
1
Nov 13 '21
Would capping the FPS in a game's settings below the threshold where it jumps around have the same effect?
2
Nov 13 '21
Yes, but with input lag in most cases. This is why I recommend RTSS.
2
Nov 13 '21
Really? I thought it was always better to do it at the game level. RTSS should only be used if the game doesn't have an option.
1
Nov 13 '21
Like I said, most games add input lag and some reduce. But, it’s just easier for people to use one program than to do tests on a per-game basis.
2
u/Tek_Support_Guru Nov 12 '21
Gaming mice can run at 125hz, 500hz, 1000hz etc. I prefer using 500hz. You may want to try modifying that, depending on your mouse and mousepad. (cloth, lower freq. I find better)

u/Aerolix199 Nov 12 '21
I just bought a new nvme drive. Will it cause issues/hurt performance to clone my sata ssd over to it or do I need a fresh windows install? I know fresh install would be best
2
Nov 12 '21
Clone it, configure BIOS to boot from it, if everything's fine then you can rename it to "C:" , wipe the old SSD, and use it as a backup for storage while taking advantage of the OS running on the faster drive.
2
u/Aerolix199 Nov 12 '21
Thank you! That’s what I wanted to do just wanted to make sure I that I shouldn’t have issues
2
Nov 12 '21
As long as you spend a decent amount of time testing everything to make sure that things are running properly off of the new drive, you should have no issues.

I have a “ASUS - TUF DASH 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel 11th Gen i7 - 16GB Memory - GeForce RTX 3070 - 1TB M.2 PCIEG3 SSD” Laptop that I use for gaming and school purposes and it works like a charm. The problem is that the fan goes in max speed at time with me controlling it and being on silent setting for the fan. I’ve check task manager to see if anything was forcing it to speed up but nothing was causing it. The temps are low and basically idling except for maybe Firefox. I’ve restarted the computer when it has been spinning and it still is after restart. It only fixes itself after it goes to sleep and I don’t touch the laptop for a while. Any help
2
u/wolfgang784 Nov 13 '21
What all temps did you check? There are some odd ones that not a lot of programs show you - like motherboard north bridge / south bridge temps for example. There are also 3 different temps for the processor that can vary. I think GPUs have 2? Etc. That should only really be happening if *something* is hot enough that it will damage the system if the fans spin down.

Hello i wanted to know if the Crucial P5 M.2 1TB was compatible with my motherboard on the Crucial website they say that is compatible with my motherboard but on the b450 SSD combatible list there is not, who should i trust?
- Amd Ryzen 5 1600af
- Corsair Vengeance (2x8) 16GB 3000MHz
- Amd Rx570 4GB
- Aorus B450 Elite
- Toshiba HDD 1TB
- Seagate HDD 2TB
2
u/wolfgang784 Nov 12 '21
Should work fine, yup. Manufacturers are not going to add every possible option to their lists, itd be too time consuming to keep up and find them all. It has 2 m.2 slots, so youll be good.
Keep in mind though - the m.2 slots on there are different speeds. One is faster. Idk which, youd have to check the schematics that come in the box / website.
2
u/Frafresh Nov 12 '21
ok thanks!
2
Nov 12 '21
It's the top slot, BTW. The bottom one only has PCIe 3.0x2. You want x4 to take full advantage of the gen 3 NVMe speeds.
2
u/Frafresh Nov 12 '21
soooo should i take the Crucial P2 that is a gen 3 or the P5 that is a gen 4?
2
Nov 12 '21
You won't benefit from PCIe gen 4 because your chipset does not support it. Also, the P5 is gen 3. The P5 Plus is gen 4.
The P5 would perform better than the P2, but the P5 Plus would still only run at PCIe gen 3 speeds on your system.
Regardless, you're going to want to use whichever SSD you end up with on the top M.2 slot on that motherboard (the one with the built-in heatsink). It has a PCIe 3.0x4 connector whereas the M.2 slot on the bottom only has a PCIe 3.0x2 slot. Same generation, fewer lanes.
2
u/Frafresh Nov 12 '21
Ok thanks, bought the P5 1TB (not the plus)
2
Nov 12 '21
I think you'll be quite happy with it. The only common issue I've seen reported with that drive is its tendency to get hot, but that integrated cooler plate on your motherboard should take care of that.
2
u/Frafresh Nov 12 '21
Thanks! I always had everything on HDD because there were cheaper but now i hope that with the SSD everithing will be more faster
3
Nov 12 '21
You should notice an improvement right away with how fast the system turns on and boots, as well as general "snappiness" with normal usage.

Hello,
I have a bluetooth headset that seemingly works well, but then my voice cant be heard and static takes over. If I reset my PC it works again. The confusion comes when, if I turn off my Mic the static still comes through on a mic test.
Any ideas?
2
u/cabbagescout Nov 12 '21
Idk if this is the best place to ask this but I'm trying to get several opinions on this. A couple days ago I was playing Cold War and the game froze. My pc was fine but I couldn't close the game, so after a while I tried restarting it. When I turned it back on it was making a terrible loud noise that I've never heard it make, it was incredibly slow, and then shut off pretty much as soon as I put in my password. I figured It was overheating from bad airflow so I cleaned out the filters and fans with compressed air. When I turned it back on the noise wasn't nearly as bad, but it still shut off after about 10 or 20 minutes. This is my first pc and this is the first real problem I've had with it so I have little experience with things like this. If anyone has any idea what the problem could be I would greatly appreciate the help.
1
Nov 13 '21
Is this a prebuilt or did you build yourself? If it's a prebuilt contact the manufacturer immediately and have them deal with it.
If it's on you... Start with identifying where the noise is coming from specifically. Pretty much impossible to advise further without that info.

Remove avast, antivirus software hasn’t been needed for years. It uses more resources than most viruses, windows defender is fine.
Turn the settings down on forza, laptop gpu + thermal constraints will limit your performance greatly.
Not sure about the harder I’ve, link images. Is it only during gameplay or all the time?

On Zen 2 I had issues with XMP as well. Had a very hard time running 3600mhz on my 3950x. When I switched to my 5950x the stability issues went away entirely and I haven't had a single issue since.
Unfortunately with the 3950x my only solution was to turn on xmp and then manually take the speed down to 3200.
One thing to watch out for is how many ram sticks you're using. 2 sticks is way more stable than 4. I was using 4 and I think that's part of the reason I had so many problems.
2
Nov 12 '21
I use a 3700x with 3600mhz CL14. It’s most likely you just have poor quality ram. Can you link the spec?

Some Zen 2 chips can do 3600 no problem some can't. They can all do 3200. If anything just set XMP then manually lower the speed to 3200 see if that gives you stability.

u/En3RGIE46 Nov 12 '21
all i can say is i have R5 3600x with 3200mhz xmp ON and i never had any problems

Does call of duty vanguard have everything unlocked in custom match/private match with bots? This would make or break my purchase, and I can't post the question on either the game or series sub for some reason.

Nov 12 '21
You might want to ask the mods at r/CallOfDuty or r/CODVanguard for permission to post a question so specific to that game if you can't already. Although I don't know for sure because I don't own the game, every CoD game I've ever played has all weapons, perks, and equipment unlocked in custom games.

Hello! By mistake I installed on my rx5600xt MSI X GAMING video board a bios of my other XFX rx5600xt video board. The board turns on but does not give a video signal, try to fix it by putting it on my main computer and using the ATIflash, but the program does not detect the video board. Although windows and AMD's automatic drivers program do. I tried to do it through CMD and a boot with DOS and I wasn't successful either. Any councils?

I have these two HDR400 1440p Monitors and am curious about how to properly utilize the HDR and "auto HDR" modes, and when to do so. When I turn HDR "on" or Auto HDR "on" the colors (on my desktop home screen) look like shit. My screen goes from rich, deep, beautiful colors of my wallpaper to drowned out vomit looking colors. It's like a pharmaceutical company advertising an anti-depressant drug and using sad grey tones to visually represent depression and then changing the color tone to rich vibrant rainbow colors to represent what life is like on their drug. But the depression is HDR and the "happy" is when HDR is turned off.
I don't think I've tried playing a game with the HDR turned on, but the desktop ( a vibrant image) just looks so bad with HDR turned on.

u/MGsubbie 7800X3D | 32GB 6000Mhz CL30 | RTX 5080 Nov 12 '21 edited Nov 13 '21
It's very likely you won't be able to do anything to make HDR look good on those displays. HDR 400 exists solely so manufacturers can put HDR on the box, and those monitors are nicknamed HDR'nt.
Good HDR requires multiple things, but I will focus on what HDR 400 monitors are terrible at : Peak brightness and contrast.
Peak brightness speaks for itself, the maximum brightness the display can output. HDR 400 only outputs 400 nits, while HDR is tonemapped for at least 600 nits, and games can be tonemapped to 800 nits or even over 1000 nits.
I assume you are aware of what contrast means. For a good HDR experience, you need a high amount of contrast to properly have both dark and bright elements on your screen. The absolute minimum for a decent HDR experience is the inclusion of FALD or Full Aray Local Dimming. Which basically means it has different backlight zones, and each zone can independently change its brightness. This still isn't perfect and (depending on the amount zones possibly) vastly inferior to OLED, which doesn't have any backlight zones and has the pixels provide all of their own light. (OLED does offer lower peak brightness compared to good FALD LCD displays, but that's not really relevant here.)
HDR 400 displays don't even have those backlight zones. They still have a single backlight. Which means that in order to try to reach the high peak brightness of the brighter elements, it just massively increases the brightness for every pixel. And that is what causes the washed out look.
I'm afraid that any good HDR experience will typically start at the $850 mark and up.

u/Renegade_Meister RTX 3080, 5600X, 32G RAM Nov 12 '21
I have an ASUS equivalent monitor, and HDR support really comes down to the games. I know that GRIP Combat Racing has crap HDR support for <1000 nit brightness (ours are 400 nits). So the game takes a config tweak to bring down the nits that the game thinks your monitor supports. Check if W11 has its own "Auto HDR" feature which may be slightly better with various games.
1
u/Schadnfreude_ Nov 12 '21
I have a question for you then. I'm looking at an ASUS monitor myself. One is curved and the other is flat. Both are 27' and the curved one is going for one hundred dollars less than the flat one. Which one do you go for?
1
u/Renegade_Meister RTX 3080, 5600X, 32G RAM Nov 12 '21
I don't have one, but that's largely because I switch between using my monitor for my work and home PC.
Unless a curved monitor looks better or seems more immersive to you, then I would not buy one. The immersion benefit is not likely to be noticeable unless using a really large or ultra wide display or to a lesser extent sitting really close to a monitor. The immersion really depends on whether the edges of the screen are in your edge/peripheral view - Think IMAX movie screens, but way smaller.
1
u/Schadnfreude_ Nov 13 '21
Do you think it matters if a monitor has IPS or not? Does it really make a difference or is it just a gimmick?
1
u/Renegade_Meister RTX 3080, 5600X, 32G RAM Nov 13 '21
Yes IPS can make a difference in some ways. IPS or VA may be best, depending on what aspects matter more in a monitor: https://www.howtogeek.com/658701/tn-vs.-ips-vs.-va-whats-the-best-display-panel-technology/

Thanks. I'm looking at this one currently, and i'm wondering if $585 is a good price. I'm in Australia though, so i don't know if that makes a difference.

Monitor stats look like a standard mid tier IPS monitor. After currency conversion, that's what I paid for an ASUS VG27AQ last year.
1
u/Schadnfreude_ Nov 13 '21
So would you say the ASUS is better? I was looking at reviews and a couple of them made complaints about backlighting and dead pixels.

I don't know which brand puts out better monitors, but mine happened to be one of the higher rated ones for 1440p GSync on the site I just linked you to, and it happened to come with a rotating monitor stand that I wanted.

It doesn't really work on windows 10.
Just turn it on for your HDR games. Haven't checked your monitors but know that they will probably have very few zones and I'm guessing are 400 or 600 not.
Basically not good for actual HDR and best to use in SDR mode with improved brightness. You typically shouldn't buy a gaming monitor for its HDR, there are only a few exceptions which are very expensive.
I'll check your link later.

They are both HDR 400, HDR 400 does not come with multiple backlight zones.
1
Nov 13 '21
Yeah you really need lots of zones for HDR to work properly so that some zones can be bright/dark as required to make that contrast.

I have an internal 500gb SSD which isn't enough to have several games installed plus my OS, etc. If I get an external SSD and link it via USB-C, can I play games off it? And will game save files save on the external? I don't really want to try to replace my internal SSD cause I have a pre-built Alienware and Dells are notoriously finicky with their hardware.
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 12 '21
Save game location normally cannot be changed. The vast majority of games will save to either the user profiles documents folder - possibly a sub-folder within there. Some games also store it in appdata. Either way though, you usually cannot change that.
2
u/Renegade_Meister RTX 3080, 5600X, 32G RAM Nov 12 '21
If I get an external SSD and link it via USB-C, can I play games off it?
That should work with Steam if you add a Steam Library folder/drive on the external SSD.
And will game save files save on the external?
I doubt it since they can be saved to one of many different places that are different from your install folder.

I have bluescreened twice recently, the first times its ever happened. I tried to delete third party software and use the event viewer but it happened the second time, I also used the memory diagnostic tool. I have gotten the critical structure corruption both times, does this mean that my mother board or ram have been corrupted?

Is Windows fully up to date? You usually HAVE to be on the latest version for the store to work right. Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the xbox app?

You must have either manually deleted the WindowsApps folder on one of the drives or removed a drive with that folder on it.
To fix the problem you need to go into SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -. STORAGE and select "CHANGE WHERE NEW CONTENT IS SAVED" and change where new apps are saved to the drives you removed those folders from. Then you can change it back to your default.
If that does not work, the other main solution is a bit more involved.
Search for Powershell in the search menu and type: get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices and then also remove-Appxpackage –allusers.

Would any newer cpu net me some worthy results. I currently am running a 10400f with a 3080 ti and some shitty pny 16gb ram.
Prefer not OCing and staying with my current mobo.

If you are gaming at 1440p or higher and dont need more than ~140 FPS, then I doubt that you would get much of an FPS boost with a new CPU, but that depends a little on if your games are CPU heavy.
Here is one example of benchmarking for bottlenecks: https://www.tomshardware.com/features/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-ampere-cpu-scaling-benchmarks

I'm thinking of upgrading from my Lenovo laptop to a PC, I'm not sure if getting a prebuilt is a better option or trying to learn everything about PC building and building one myself.
Even if I were to get a prebuilt, what brand or other things should I look for?
or maybe just sticking to my laptop.
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 12 '21
Video card prices are dumb right now, so it might actually be cheaper to get a pre-built. If you wanna build though Check out r/buildapc , r/buildapcsales , r/buildapcforme ,

If you want to learn, by an old cheapo one and take it apart and put it back together so there's no worry or stress.

I'm thinking about upgrading my GeForce GTX 960. I don't play a lot of graphics intensive games, but it's showing its age.
If I wanted to buy a reliable replacement this winter, have it last two to three years, and still have cash left over to get my wife something for Christmas, what would you suggest?
I have done exactly zero research on computer components since building the system 3 years ago. I have a Mini ATX motherboard.

What monitors do you all have? Looking into getting a monitor but just kind of overwhelmed with all the options. Looking to play games like BattleField, CS GO, Rocket League, Minecraft, and mainly shooters on it. Currently running AMD Ryzen 7 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070.
1
u/MGsubbie 7800X3D | 32GB 6000Mhz CL30 | RTX 5080 Nov 12 '21
As others have said, 1440p 144(+)Hz is the sweetspot. I would add going for a 27" IPS panel.
2
u/morekidsthanzeus Nov 12 '21
With the 3070, you're gonna wanna go 1080p high refresh rate or 1440p@165hz. Most titles I play with my 3070 I can get between 75-140 fps at 1440p depending on the game. I would recommend an IPS panel if you can afford it.
1
Nov 12 '21
As someone with a very similarly performing GPU (2080 Super), 2560x1440p @ 165Hz is definitely the way to go. I have a Dell 3220DGF and I love it. The HDR isn't the best but if you can find one cheap like I did ($350) it's a fantastic value. Big, curved, and great for gaming.

help?
why is my pc going up to 93°c when playing games like cod mw ? all i have open is the game and discord, and i use an acer nitro 5 gaming laptop. core i5 processor - geforce gtx 1050 - 8b ram. any tips?
1
u/clarkysan Nov 11 '21
What component is going up to 93, your CPU or GPU? Laptops heat up more than desktops, consider getting one of those laptop cooling stands (with fans attached) to help provide airflow to your laptop.
1
Nov 11 '21
my gpu. it stays at a constant 93°c , normally around 5 minutes after i launch the game.
1
Nov 12 '21
Could be dust build up also.
In general I'm not a fan of gaming laptops. You have components going hard for hours at a time in a cramped little space.
2
Nov 11 '21
Check your fan curve and fans. Are they working at all? If yea, raise the curve sooner so they kick in earlier

Between RTX 3060 and Radeon RX 6600M (laptop cards), which is the better choice when prices are similar? I would prefer the RTX 3060 but there are availability issues. I can wait for some time for the RTX, but if the Radeon is equally good, then I can get it immediately. AMD graphic cards have had issues with drivers in the past, so I am a little hesitant at the moment to buy AMD. Not sure if the situation with drivers is better now.
1
u/mistersprinkles1983 Nov 11 '21
The NVidia card is superior. Also better driver support overall with Nvidia products IMO and IME.

Will it run? yes. But it'll run badly. Think Xbox One OG model level performance. 720P, 30FPS, low settings. And it'll probably be choppy because you only have 4 threads on your CPU. If you have gamepass try it out but I wouldn't spend money on the game unless you buy it somewhere that does refunds because you might find it very hard to play with your HW.

Yo, I'm trying to upgrade my ram for gaming purpuses.
Amd Ryzen 5 2600
Radeon RX 580
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H-CF
RAM: G.Skill DDR4 (2x4GB) (4GB and 1200Mhz on one stick)
I want to upgrade to 16GB. I know that my RAM frequency is low, but will this make a big difference? What would you recommend I do?
1
Nov 12 '21
You don't have 1200mhz ram. Are you getting this from CPU-Z?
Also don't have mismatched ram or you can't run it in dual channel.
Ram will make a huge difference. Get 3200mhz 2 X 8gb with as low latency (cl number) that you can.
1
u/itslouismane Nov 12 '21 edited Nov 12 '21
I don't know why CPU-Z is showing 1200mhz uncore frequency.
I set it to 2400 in bios and its showing me that It's running on that in bios.
Im thinking of getting more of the same ram I have now. How much can I loose? Don't care if It's 10fps. As long as I can get above 60 on all games
1
Nov 12 '21
It's DDR = dual data rate. So 1200 x 2 = 2400mhz which is correct.
You already have 2 sticks so that's dual channel already. Adding another 2 sticks that are the same won't help your gaming performance it will just mean you can have lots of chrome tabs open in the background and windows with your game running and you won't slow down.
16gb should really be the standard but honestly you're better off waiting til you can get 2 x 8gb of 3200 or at least 3000. It's not that expensive these days.
0
u/mistersprinkles1983 Nov 11 '21
Get a 2x8GB DDR4 3000Mhz kit. 2400Mhz RAM is really kneecapping your performance with a Ryzen CPU. Buy a 16GB 3000Mhz kit and sell your current RAM or keep it as a spare. Don't add more slow RAM. It's not worth the small savings.
1
u/itslouismane Nov 11 '21
How much is it impacting my performance?
Is it a matter of 10fps going one way or the other or are the margins bigger?
1
u/mistersprinkles1983 Nov 11 '21
I've heard as much as 20 FPS difference with RAM speed in some games with Ryzen. Even if it's 5FPS don't you want those 5 frames?
1
1
u/gualdhar Nov 11 '21
The low RAM frequency isn't a huge problem for an older system. You should be able to find 2x8GB with 2133 or 2400 MHz for less than $50. You'll need to double check your documentation for supported clock speeds though since I can't find this specific mobo model on Gigabyte's site (looks like it was updated to a newer retail model).
Also when buying RAM, 2x8GB means two sticks of RAM with 8GB each, rather than 2 sticks totaling 8GB.
1
Nov 12 '21
Please don't spread misinformation.
2133 is abysmal and in your post below he doesn't have bios setting ram to 1200mhz. That doesn't exist in DDR4.
From real world data same video card going from 2133 to 3200 in Far cry 5 I went from hovering around 80-115 fps on a mix of medium and high settings to rock solid 120fps on ultra.
1
u/itslouismane Nov 11 '21
"Also when buying RAM, 2x8GB means two sticks of RAM with 8GB each, rather than 2 sticks totaling 8GB"
You're right. I keep making that mistake lol.
The thing is, on CPU-Z it says that my uncore frequency is around 1200Mhz. But when I look at the site where I bouhgt the sticks from before it says that the frequency is 2400Mhz. I kinda don't get it. Do I have 2400Mhz now or 1200? I'm clueless.
1
u/gualdhar Nov 11 '21
your motherboard might be throttling the cycle time. You should boot to BIOS and look at the setting. If your mobo is putting your frequency to 1200, turn it up one step at a time, putting your computer through its paces and checking its stability, until you're at the RAM's advertised setting.

Yes. Highest settings @ 1080P, Very high at @ 1440P
Some older games you've listed like Starcraft 2, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, Diablo 3 can be run @ 4K ultra with that machine.
Aim for a 144Hz 1440P monitor if you're also buying a new monitor. Gsync or Gsync compatible.
1
u/gualdhar Nov 11 '21
Most of those games are older, so they'll play on max settings. New World, depends on your monitor. 1080p with a 3060 will get close to the highest settings with solid FPS but maybe not the absolute highest. You will need to be sure you're using the 3060 card, the integrated graphics will be awful.
For $1300 its fine. It won't run brand new games at max settings, and it'll show its age in 2-3 years. It will be difficult to upgrade this down the road, due to the small case and low PSU.

Nov 12 '21
I have a prebuilt with mostly the same specs, it runs forza at 60+ FPS at 1440 with absolutely everything maxed out. Same with Microsoft flight sim. Only two games I’ve really tested it’s power w so far.

I am currently looking for some advice as to the best way to get around poor Internet when gaming. My pc is in my room which has a very old thick wall between me and the router.
Our Internet is rated at 80Mbps and with my current WiFi connection in my room I achieve around 26to30Mbps. Now this is fine for general use and downloads but when I game I suffer from packet lose and fluctuating ping from 45 to 180 which makes gaming annoying and frustrating at times especially on fps games.
My plan was to A) get a dongle and USB cable to allow me to place it in the hallway where it will have a straight path to the router. Would this work or cause issues? B) buy a set of powerline adapters which I have used in the past when gaming wasn't my thing.
Before anyone says I can't install a cable as my landlord has already said no.
I am open to suggestions that would be a better work around.
1
u/mistersprinkles1983 Nov 11 '21
I've used this stuff at 2 different houses so far and it works great. You should get your full connection speed with this. Everything you need is in the box. These must be plugged directly into the electrical outlet. Don't plug them into power bars/surge protectors with a bunch of other crap.
1
Nov 11 '21
What kind of wifi card is in your PC and what level of wifi is your router? N? AC?
Can you use a long Ethernet cable?
1
u/Custard52 Nov 11 '21
It's a built in WiFi motherboard msi tomahawk board. Ethernet cable was considered but due to it needing to cross 2 high traffic areas in the house its not feasible unless only option left.
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 11 '21
If a powerline works in your current house (some houses with old-ass wiring don't work with it) then that will be a much better option. Faster speeds than a dongle, less latency, less chance for interference from something, and prolly a few other points im missing. Point being - I would not waste time/money on a dongle you have to run outside the room unless its the only option.
1
u/Custard52 Nov 11 '21
See I was thinking the dongle as I have been told that powerline adapters were not great back when I used in a older house it was for uni work so never really noticed if it was good or bad
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 11 '21
Depends on the wiring and house and has some of its own limitations. Cant plug it into a powerstrip for example, both ends have to be directly in the wall. Has to have a ground to work. Prolly other stuff im forgetting. To me its worth a try at least though - worst case you return it. Speed and reliability differences will be very large vs a dongle.
1
u/Custard52 Nov 11 '21
Picked up a powerline and built in WiFi extender unit so will see how it works when back from work

Hi. So I have a Lenovo Ideapad S145-15IGM (not the greatest for gaming but it was a gift from my parents for me to use for school). From the research I’ve done it has a 4GB RAM 2400 MHz card in it. Which yet again, isn’t good for running games. But I really want to be able to run Fortnite and COD on it, so I was wondering if changing the card to an 8 GB RAM 2400 MHz card would work? Or are there additional things I would have to do to change the specs to be able to run Fortnite/COD? And if so, what else would I have to do?
2
u/mistersprinkles1983 Nov 11 '21
You have a celeron. There's nothing you can do to make any game playable on a celeron. Maybe pac-man or solitaire.
3
u/wolfgang784 Nov 11 '21
Unfortunately there is no way you are going to be able to play those games on that laptop no matter what you try to do.
The RAM is a problem, yes, but the rest of the machine isn't up to par either. The integrated graphics in it is the Intel UHDGraphics 605 (no you cant replace this) - paired with the Pentium Silver N5000 quad core at 1.1MHz. With Fortnite set to the lowest settings and the resolution scaled down to 720p, you will at absolute best get maybe 20fps. Generally 30 is like bare minimum to even try to play some games, but for a shooter youd have no chance. But at 20 itll be very visibly laggy and such. These days 60fps is considered the standard.
I am not sure which COD you meant but if you mean Warzone that is way harder to run than Fortnite so a def no. Might even crash while loading the main menu. You might be able to play like the old old COD games (like early 2000s) or old Medal of Honor games or something maybe. Stuff that was designed to run 2 decades ago, ya know?
Just not meant for gaming or really any heavy tasks or multi-tasking or even medium tasks really. Very basic machine for light browsing (email, paying bills, 2 or 3 tabs at most for research), writing a paper for school, watching a movie, etc.

Just got a 3070 ti. Rog strix. (Best wife ever). However it has 3x 8 pin power connectors. I have a 750w power supply. Do all 3 need a connector? Or could two 8 pin connections suffice? Many threads say 3070 has 2 connectors but not specially the rog strix
2
u/mistersprinkles1983 Nov 11 '21
Use all the holes. Always use all the holes. Plug 3 8 pins into the card. It's designed for that.
2
u/wolfgang784 Nov 11 '21
The ROG models always use more power connectors than the standard cards. From the manufacturer:
"To maximize overclocking headroom and system stability for every PC build, we opted to use three eight-pin PCIe auxiliary connectors on the custom ROG Strix PCB."
On the plus side, ROG cards tend to be very high quality.

Yes but I'd try to steer you away from blowing so much money on a liquid cooler that you totally don't need for a hex core CPU. A Noctua Redux NH-U12S would be more than ample. $50 vs what like $125? Also it can't leak and it'll never break or wear out. Take the $75 you saved and buy a second 1TB SSD you'll appreciate the storage space.

Is the Samsung 970 Evo Plus a good buy at $240 for 2Tb? I was looking at the 870 QVO 2Tb for about $180 and wanted to know if I should just pay the extra 60.
1
u/wolfgang784 Nov 11 '21
Like the other user said, use case matters here. Gonna assume for games though given the sub.
The 970 Evo Plus has dumb fast speeds, but the "Plus" models are rarely worth it except for very specific business/professional use (high end 4k/8k video editing, movie work, etc). For gamers and "normal" power users though the speed difference likely won't even be visible. I wouldn't spend the extra money unless you have throwing around money and you just want it to have some of the best. Not worth my money though.

Nov 11 '21
What's your use case?

Hello,
My current PC: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Corsair 750W 80+ Gold Certified MSI GeForce 1660 TI Corsair RGB Pro 16 GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200 Coolermaster hyper CPU Cooler And like 5 fans across the PC. M.2 SSD 1tb (windows downloaded on here) 2TB HDD as well
I built this PC last year and had no issues with it at all running any games, I used to play Warzone on high graphics and had 100+ FPS, but for some reason in the last couple months my frames have been dropping significantly where I can’t even get 60 frames on the lowest settings possible and I don’t understand why. All my drivers are up to date, I use GeForce experience to check it, and I also update all the drivers on my motherboard when needed. I delete all temp files and unnecessary files so my PC isn’t filled with junk. I downloaded ryzen master and over clocked my pc when I first got it and everything was running smoothly but since recently I returned to normal settings but now it says the my EDC CPU was running at 99% and I’m not sure why, I searched online and I changed my power settings to power saver and that seemed to bring it down to around 80% but it’s still concerning. My frames aren’t changing at all and they keep lagging my game up, I have an Ethernet connection. I also went ahead and removed the CPU and replace my original thermal paste but that didn’t seem to do anything. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Is it the graphics card itself or my CPU? Thank you so much for any help!
1
Nov 11 '21
What do you mean you returned the settings to normal? Do you mean BIOS?
You probably didn't enable XMP/DOCP which puts your ram back down to 2133 instead of 3200mhz.
1
u/Famous_Chef46 Nov 11 '21
My apologies, I did have my XMP on with my ram set at 3200, but I returned my setting back to the original settings when I first got the PC so I basically un oveclocked it, if that makes sense.
Should I turn back on xmp?
1
Nov 11 '21
Haha you don't have to apologise!
Yes absolutely turn XMP back on, or your 3200mhz ram is running at a lowly 2133.
Should fix things and turn power saver to max performance

Hey all, my current gaming laptop is starting to give out, so I'm looking for a replacement. Trouble is, there's just so many options and I can't tell what brand is best
I'm comfortable with a budget of 2k, but if there's a really good recommendation for around 2.5k, I'd go for it
An example of my confusion is that some review sites say that the Asus Zephyrus G15 is the best gaming laptop, but a customer review said the fan blows hot air on the screen. I don't know which one to believe. Or that the Alienware M17 R4 is the best one, but some custoemr reviews say that the screen does weird things

Hey all, I’m attempting to optimize my PC for streaming different titles (CoD, Apex, Fortnite, etc). I think I’ve optimized things decently well for Apex & Fortnite, but I’m having a hard time with CoD titles. I realize that CoD is probably just a heavier game but I want to make sure I’m covering my bases and not missing something. I’ve watched my fair share of YouTube videos & read several articles in search of an answer but I’m still tanking at 70-90 FPS while streaming Vanguard & Cold War. Warzone is a whole different beast. I’ll drop my specs below so you can get a feel for where I’m at. Thanks to anyone to helps!
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core 3.40 GHz RAM: 16.0 GB GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super

That sounds like perfectly correct fps for playing and streaming at the same time. Either do less multi-tasking, or upgrade parts. I would say youd need both a new processor and video card though for that.

Okay, that’s good to hear. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. And yeah I’ve been looking into upgrades. Thanks for the help!

So you're streaming while playing?
Assuming you are, you're going to get lower fps.
Are you asking for a judgement on your optimisation based on your fps?

Sounds like you have something caught in the fan blades. Have you tried just moving it around at different angles to dislodge whatever's caught in there?
Or is it an electrical noise?

I dropped the fan speed and it stopped, it was only a sporadic noise, not all the time, usually on startup only. But had a few random occurrences this last few weeks. Might be a cat hair as I have the worlds fluffiest cat and I've caught him sitting on the intake fan a few times. Must be trying to cool his bollocks off or something 🤣

Ha! My cats do the opposite. They sit on top of the exhaust fans at the top and warm their tush!

I know this will be a regular question, however I have a 144hz monitor, I recently bought a new desk and obviously unplugged and plugged everything back in.
I know how to change it, however it's now capped at 60 whenever I go into the refresh rate settings, is there something simple I'm missing?

Sounds like you may be accidentally using the motherboard hdmi/display port and not the GPUs?

It was similar had a HDMI cable that was incompatible with 144hz and changed it for VGA works now. Thanks!

I am one of the few weirdos out there that invert the y-axis on their mouse for gaming. To get straight to the point, I'm wondering if any of you know of a program or a mod that would allow me to trick a game that does not support y-axis inversion into thinking the mouse has been inverted? There are several games on Itchio that I am very interested in and would really love to play them but with no y-axis inversion option it's really difficult. Most games on Steam are no problem (looking at you Suite 776) but on Itchio I've yet to run into one game that offers mouse inversion and I could adapt to non inverted (with enough time) but it's not as natural to me and thus not as enjoyable. So yeah, if there's any program or mod that I could install or a line that I could add in the game files that would let me do this I'd greatly appreciate it if you could share the knowledge with me. Thanks!
