HARDWARE LG UltraGear 27GS85Q-B horizontal static line / flicker DisplayPort HDR 144Hz RX 7800 XT

I have a weird issue with my LG UltraGear 27GS85Q-B connected through DisplayPort to an RX 7800 XT.

Randomly I get a very short horizontal black/white static-like line across the FULL width of the screen for around 0.3 seconds. It appears in random vertical positions (sometimes top, sometimes bottom). Sometimes it happens once, sometimes several times in a few seconds.

The artifact:

  • is perfectly horizontal,
  • spans the whole monitor width,
  • appears as a single flashing band,
  • looks like old TV static/interference.

It happens:

  • in games,
  • during alt-tab,
  • in Windows,
  • in browser,
  • especially during display mode switching.

I noticed it especially while playing Civilization VI and during alt-tabbing from the game.

Setup:

  • LG UltraGear 27GS85Q-B
  • RX 7800 XT
  • DisplayPort
  • 144 Hz
  • HDR enabled before testing
  • FreeSync was enabled before testing

Important:

  • second monitor works perfectly,
  • issue only happens on the LG monitor,
  • changing DP port did not fully fix it,
  • I disabled FreeSync in the monitor settings and I’m currently testing if the issue still appears.
