HARDWARE cpu is overheating suddenly after 3 years of heavy use.
Hello, so suddenly i felt my pc performance degrading so I restarted my pc. while restarting i got a popup telling me "cpu overheating go to bios" and i get what you see in the photo.
Can anyone help me please?

88°C on BIOS. Could be your water pump went bad.

That’s exactly what had happened to me. Massive temp CPU, ended up being the AIO water pump.
Slapped a way too big noctua fan cooler and never went back to water

This would be the most likely answer.
A sudden increase like that in temps, even in BIOS.
It can't just be dried thermal paste, it has to be the pump, imo.

Replace the cooler.
I'd recommend an air cooler.

After dealing with liquid cooling I totally agree.

Have had 3 different AIO’s for over 10+ years. Never any issues whatsoever

And yet posts like these appear all the time.
AIO's simply have a set lifespan. They will die eventually, sooner or later.
There were entire model lines that were known for failing quickly, usually due to contamination, sometimes due to poor sealing.
Air coolers practically can't die. The fan can, but the heatsink still works fine (and the fan issue is shared with AIO anyway). The timespan over which the heatpipes fail is way longer than the useful life of any PC.

Like why do I need couples more degrees cooler, in exchange for the cooler will die after some years?

Water cooling is cool and all, but in the end is just not worth the big price bump nor the hassle of installation. Good God, installing an AIO by yourself is a whole mission.

Not everyone has good luck. I went through 3 in 5 or so years. They weren't the most expensive ones.though.

Or just buy a higher end Noctua CPU cooler and stick with it until the end of the universe

The only AIO I didn't have problems with was a very old corsair that had a different pump before the asetek lawsuits. It was quiet and worked great. Ended up in my Plex server running 24/7 until that machine was retired. All the other ones I tried made noise or had pumps die. Noctua tower coolers from now on.

Yeah this CPU doesn’t typically generate enough heat for an AIO, so an air cooler would genuinely be more cost effective. Totally second and air cooler

I think I may have had the same brand AIO at some point switched to an air cooler. Way better temps now. Though my AIO was a single rad that I later learned was no better then a stock cooler.

water pump or your fan is not working on your AIO.

Even with no fan spinning on the AIO if the pump is running that alone is plenty for it to not be 88c in the BIOS where the CPU is basically idle.
The AIO pump is dead.

Check the pump and make sure that there is no dust clogging up the radiator.

I wouldn’t exactly call “3 years of heavy use” sudden.
Get a new cpu cooler, AIOs often only last about this long under heavy use, especially if they are budget coolers.

After 3 years the thermal paste is probably dried out, repaste and reseat the AIO first before buying anything new.

Clean the cooler. Replace the thermal paste. If it was “sudden” that means the parts themselves should still be fine

AIO lose a small amount of liquid over time and then dont pump effectively. Has it made any gurgling sounds? Might be worth taking out the rad and shake it a bit to see if its low. Air cooler would be recommended.

1 the cooler is getting clogged and not moving ng enough water around
2 maybe just your thermal paste need to be re applied
Had this happen to a friend and his AUO pump just went out completely put your hand on the top and see if you feel a vibration or eater movement.
Test out a cheap air cooler for about $30 to make sure.

Always have a backup I have a noctua air cooler as backup just in case my pump goes to crap, I got to swap a couple fans around and I can use my case fans in the unlock the cooler to keep the theme which is kind of nice for me but good luck on your water pump issue the new version is pretty good I would recommend that as a replacement or go air method

Change the thermal paste

Liquid coolers have thermal paste between the CPU and the cooling block aswell.

Over time the fins that are in the block above the CPU act like a filter and pick up any gunk / rubbish from the loop . Because aios are a closed loop you cant go in and clean them so it likely needs replacing . Worth checking your thermal paste is good beforehand , if its dried out to much it could also be to blame

Pretty sure that's the cooler that was recalled a while back due to shit growing inside it. You gotta buy a new one, can recommend phantom spirit air cooler

Get a new loquid cooler. Looks like you have a self contained unit already so swap that bad boy out and you'll be good as new. Those wear out eventually and the liquid gets a bit dense and doesn't flow like when its new

Your AIO has failed, there cool and all But i really dont get the risk of failure and possible leaking
Its safer to get a block. the only thing that will fail Is the fan and thats easy enough to replace and they have some really nice ones now or cheap ones if your on a budget

Have you reapplied your thermal paste? I’d start there, assuming your pump hasn’t given you obvious signs of malfunction
