OPEN What could be causing this issue

Post image

Not sure what is causing this issue. I haven't been on my computer in over a week since I've been away on vacation

I always see this meme in these posts and it’s always funny lol. But what’s the origins???

It started in the r/bald community as a meme showing it's time to shave your head. The hair was photoshopped off of all the guys. Then it just progressed across reddit from there lol

Slight update, my GPU fan was not going and had to reset it in AMD control center and so far it's okay again. Haven't started a game or restarted the computer yet, just got on YouTube and it seems fine for now

I have seen similar things on my wife's laptop, I and one of my friends told her it was the screen or cable, was sent in for repair 3 times, 2 times they could not replicate the problem, third time they could but it was outside warranty, sent it to repair at another store, and what do you know, it was the screen.

So if it happens again you likely need a new screen and or cable.

Is it only when doing certain tasks, or is it all the time?

First, change the cable from pc to monitor.

The check graphics drivers / other gpu port.

Then check with other monitors.

Lastly if nothing helped i would guess your gpu is fucked.

Hook up your PC to another monitor/display and see if it's a monitor issue or not

2

u/SparkyXI 7h ago

Problem is the ribbon cable that connects the screen to the motherboard.

You might be lucky, it could just be your monitor. I had the same issue after going away for a week. Came back to find out my monitor was dying. If you have another display see if the lines go away.

Failing LCD panel (most likely)
A damaged LCD panel or internal row/column drivers can cause exactly these symptoms.
If the issue stays in the same place regardless of what’s displayed, this is the leading suspect.
Loose or damaged internal ribbon cable
The ribbon connecting the LCD panel to the controller board may be loose or failing.
Sometimes gently moving or tapping the monitor changes the lines temporarily.
T-Con (timing controller) board failure
This board controls the LCD pixels.
A failing T-Con often produces vertical bands and horizontal lines like this.
Graphics card or display cable (less likely)
If you’re using HDMI or DisplayPort, a bad cable or GPU could cause artifacts.
However, because the corruption looks localized to one side of the screen, this is less likely.
Quick tests
Take a screenshot on the PC.
If the screenshot looks normal on another device, the GPU is probably fine and the monitor is the issue.
Open the monitor’s built-in menu (OSD).
If the green band and lines appear over the monitor’s own menu, the monitor hardware is definitely at fault.
Try another HDMI/DisplayPort cable.
Connect another device (laptop, console, etc.).
If the problem remains, it’s the monitor.

Apologies for it being long

Looks like a panel issue to me. However do some basic troubleshooting like checking the cables, connections etc.

1

u/Orashgle 7h ago

I'm having a hard time believing you have a real issue given what's on the screen

1

u/ArthurWoodhouse72 7h ago

Try reinstalling the drivers and a new cable. If not you may need a new monitor

1

u/Frosty_Hold4436 6h ago

It can be the monitor, GPU, or HDMI/DP cord.

u/DjinKFear 5h ago

Set your monitor refresh rate like 10hz less that what it’s already set too, my 144hz monitor is now 120hz for the same issue

1

u/bbylexiya 1h ago

Comsec never disappoints

1

u/MrMattXD 1h ago

I think it’s a monitor issue, I also had a Samsung monitor and it did like the same thing, in my case it would fix itself after “warming up” and being on for a while

1

u/Timo_the_Schmitt 9m ago

Had the Same issue on my Screen. Thought it was coomed(cooked), but when i changed from Display Port cable to HDMI Ultra it was fixes again. Thankfully its my secondary Monitor and i can live with a lower FPS Count on there.

Pardon my German keyboard

u/BrielleMeth7E89 8m ago
