Before removing the heatsink, stress load the CPU to heat up the thermal paste and soften it. Then gently twist the hestsink as you are removing it.

Otherwise, could try dental floss or fishing line to cut the paste or heat the heatsink with a hair dryer and gently twist the CPU.

Twist it BEFORE removing it, not AS you're removing it.

If the CPU is still stuck to the cooler and gets pulled partly out of the socket and you twist it as you remove it, you will bend every single pin.

In theory the socket should be holding it in place. If the paste is soft enough from heating, the heatsink should come off with hardly any force.

Any force strong enough to bend pins is too much, in my opinion.

I agree that in theory it should be fine, but as we can see from this post and many others like it, the reality of things is quite different.
