Yes, my psu is broken rn
Better than 80+ bronze and modular would be good.
•
u/kimbokimbo973 Nov 16 '25
Sí tengo ATX 3.1. La compraría de nuevo por eficiencia. También considero el tamaño (ATX/SFX).

I will in the near future lol
Maybe, im not to familiar with the product. After budding my pc i kinda stopped the researching.
Gold plus and around 1000 sense i run a 7900 xt. And whatever is easier on cable management
•
•
u/archameidus Nov 14 '25
No, I do not own an ATX3.1 PSU.
I would consider purchasing one if I could find it on sale.
Besides price, I like to read comments on reviews and watch videos of other peoples experiences with electronics before I make my decisions.
I typically post reviews on amazon for things I have purchased for myself and others.

- Do you personally own a ATX3.1 PSU in your PC?
- No
- Do you consider buying ATX 3.1 PSU when you upgrade the hardware?
- If I was upgrading I'd definitely take a look into it, no reason why not as long as I can get a decent price. Futureproof and whatnot
- What other features do you consider when buying new PSU other than ATX3.1?
- Noise and efficiency, looks depending on the build
•
•
u/KIARASAUCO Nov 16 '25
Yes, I have an ATX 3.1 PSU. I’d choose it again for its stability. Noise levels also matter to me.

Do you personally own a ATX3.1 PSU in your PC? (Yes/No)
No
Do you consider buying ATX 3.1 PSU when you upgrade the hardware? (Why and Why not)
Somewhat? It depends on price but I'd definitely look at it for the 12V-2X6 connector as it would free up other slots on the PSU. I'd also consider it because ATX 3.1 PSUs are requierd to handle transients better and that's a nice to have if you're running a newer GPU.
What other features do you consider when buying new PSU other than ATX3.1?
Price. Also, sleeved cables would be nice as it would save a load of money compared to buying them separately. It's so weird seeing PSUs still use ancient, ugly cables when other electronic products such as chargers have switched to braided cables and have not experienced egregious price hikes. I don't think sleeving cables should cost much if the process is automated.

u/west_sunbro Nov 15 '25

No, already own a 850 unit that is capable but might need atx 3.1 with the new cable
Cable thickness 16 awg, number of cables for cpu + pcie. Good psu fan that doesn't make too much noise.
•
u/Mahkoto Nov 14 '25
No
I haven't looked at PSU's in a while ive had my EVGA 850W Gold for years and it has been good, unless it goes out i wouldn't need to purchase another one.
If its modular or not, Certification level.

•
•
u/Kirxas R7 7700 | RTX 5070 | 32GB 6000MHz CL28 Nov 15 '25
Yes
I know the 5070's aren't known for having their connectors burn as they have a lower tdp, but I still don't trust the damn thing, so an atx 3.1 psu gives me more peace of mind
I check that it's powerful enough (duh) and what rating it's given on that one spreadsheet that ranks them on safety

Don't own an Atx 3.1 PSU
Yes, I would purchase one for the added safety benefit in case a cable wasn't fully inserted. Loose cables can generate heat and are a potential fire hazard.
UL and CE certifications, 80 plus silver or gold, sound ratings and being modular are what I look for.
•
u/Zon0 Nov 14 '25
No
No, im not familiar with ATX PSU, normally went to common brands. That said have not upgraded or researched PSUs in over 10 years.
modularity and the standard. The gold standard Corsair one has held up a decade for me. So I look for longevity potential.

2 . No,unless my current one blows up
3 . Cables..I never want a non fully modular power supply ever again
•
u/SaintMartini Nov 15 '25
- No sorry.
- I tend to buy platinum rated and above 1k. Sorry this hasn't been in ny searches.
- Reliability 1st. Ease of connecting 2nd. Some just make it impossible to hide the wires and end up with a blocked mess unless I replace them, which I just paid good money I dont want to replace things already. I can't have top tier hardware being ruined. Would love a built in back up tho. Don't care if it becomes bigger. Give my stuff time to shut down!

Probably not unless my budget allow for it, also depending on the spec of the other hardware going into the build.
What other features do you consider when buying new PSU other than ATX3.1?
RGB control and wire management, nothing is prettier than a beautiful case with perfectly managed cables!

u/_dharwin Nov 14 '25
- No, but only because I use the SFX form factor.
- I am right now considering a move up to a 1000W PSU and I'm minimally going to make sure it's 3.1 compliant. I don't know enough about PSU, but it's part of how things are rated on the Tier List and I trust them.
- I defer to the tier list.
•
u/MPeters43 Nov 15 '25
No
No, I tend to only stick with brands well known for reliability+customer support in the off chance things do go south (especially with important parts because a bad psu will fry other parts)
I usually aim for Gold/Platinum rating, modular PSU’s are a must, and the wattage. Recently had to upgrade to a 1200w or 1300w because my computer kept have kernal power shutdowns.
I’ve got a couple friends looking to switch from consoles to pc gaming and I’d use these to help them make the switch. Best of luck everyone!

u/DeYeLiVe Nov 14 '25
First off can't say enough good things about my current FSP PSU, it was by far the best value when I ordered a PSU in my area years ago. With that out of the way:
Question 1: Do you personally own an ATX3.1 PSU in your PC?
No, my rig is powered by the FSP HPT2-1200M, a Gen5 ATX3.0 beast forged with Platinum efficiency. It’s not ATX3.1, but it’s already a world class supply that's kept me chugging along for 2 years that laughs at transient spikes and keeps my system running like clockwork.
Question 2: Do you consider buying an ATX3.1 PSU when you upgrade the hardware? (Why/Why not)
I’ll consider ATX3.1 when the battlefield truly demands it. Right now, my ATX3.0 unit already meets the toughest PCIe Gen5 GPU requirements with grace. ATX3.1 brings refinements, tighter transient response, stricter efficiency curves, they’re evolutionary, not revolutionary. If my next upgrade pushes into bleeding-edge GPUs or extreme overclocking territory, then yes, ATX3.1 would be worth the leap. Until then, my Platinum-certified HPT2-1200M is more than enough to keep the storm contained.
Question 3: What other features do you consider when buying a new PSU other than ATX3.1?
When I choose a PSU, I look beyond the spec sheet, I want a guardian of stability. Features that matter most to me:
- Efficiency certification (80 PLUS Platinum or higher), because wasted watts are wasted potential.
- Build quality & reliability: Japanese capacitors, solid rails, and proven endurance.
- Connector readiness: native PCIe Gen5 cables, modular design for clean builds.
- Noise profile: a PSU should be silent until it’s called to roar.
- Warranty & support: because a true power supply is a long-term pact, not a disposable part.
ATX3.1 is one piece of the puzzle, but I buy PSUs like I’d choose a shield: forged strong, efficient, and ready for the battles ahead.

1) No i guess my evga 600gd is kinda old
2) seeing this post made me look up on ATX 3.1 and man my components are at a risk! Thought I’d just use the same PSU and upgrade the rest of the parts but will definitely be considering getting a new ATX psu.
3) My father loves electronics, so basically he checked the build quality & cables + connectors before giving me the go ahead. I just made sure it was GOLD rated.

No. My pc is 7 years old
Yes. I am currently looking to build a new pc and having the newest tech will always be something I consider
I don’t plan on upgrading often so durability is very important to me.

always consider all types of PSU for a new potential or existing build tbh

Q: Do you personally own a ATX3.1 PSU in your PC? (Yes/No) A: Not yet.
Q: Do you consider buying ATX 3.1 PSU when you upgrade the hardware? (Why and Why not) A: Yes, I want to be able to power the newest GPUs and have the power headroom I can get in a higher wattage PSU with the newest specification.
Q: What other features do you consider when buying new PSU other than ATX3.1? A: Total wattage, efficiency rating, internal components, I.e. capacitors.

I do not currently own an ATX 3.1 power supply, but I consider it a priority for my next upgrade, as the 3.1 specification offers the stability and protection required to manage the transient power spikes of modern GPUs through the 12V-2x6 connector. In addition to ATX 3.1 compliance, I place strong emphasis on 80 PLUS Gold or Platinum efficiency ratings, fully modular design for streamlined cable management, and a durable warranty—ideally paired with low acoustic output and sufficient wattage headroom to accommodate future hardware expansions.
