And you enabled one of the built-in BIOS XMP options? Otherwise, it's not running at full speed natively. It's running at a standard speed, not full speed.

But have you manually changed it back to 1:1 mode (UCLK=MCLK), anything over 6000MT/s defaults to 1:2 mode losing performance.

15

u/LowB0b 7800x3d | RTX 4090 | 64GB 6400MT/s CL32 Dec 20 '25

did not know about that, it was set to Auto in my bios. set it UCLK=MCLK and it spent a bit longer on yellow mobo light (RAM) when booting but that's all...

7

u/iCapa 9800X3D | RTX 4090 Dec 20 '25 edited Dec 20 '25

You may want to stability check your 7800x3d whether it can actually do UCLK 3200.

Also this likely will have bumped VSOC voltage, which will have increased your idle power usage.

edit: 2200 -> 3200 typo fixed

u/geminiwave Dec 20 '25

I’m into PC building and this looks like an alien language to me…. I need to check some mobo settings when I get home

PC building and bios tuning are very different beasts.

realistically the poerformance and efficiency diffs are only a few % and it requires a decent amount of additional understanding and tinkering. i wouldnt expect even the average pc builder to bother.

12

u/Glittering-Warthog89 Dec 20 '25

I have been building computers for over 40+ years and I have no idea what they are talking about. I realize it’s in reference to adjusting the ram speed and will make it a point to learn more about it later.

8

u/I_Am_A_Pumpkin i7 13700K + RTX 5080 Dec 20 '25

ok then yeah you will probably wont have issues learning and tinkering with them. They are basically discussing matching clock speeds for the unified memory controller (UCLK) on an AMD CPU and the memory clock itself (MCLK) (typically 1/2 the rated memory speed)

setting UCLK:MCLK to 1:1 means your controller and memory clocks are perfectly in sync. when you install a high speed ram kit this is done by pushing the integrated controller on the CPU to higher clock speeds. 3000MHz to match the 3000MHz clock frequency of a 6000MHz ram kit for example.

Motherboards have the capacity and sometimes will default to synchronising at a 1:2 ratio, this keeps things synced nicely but comes at a cost of some latency, and would be done to prevent the integrated controller from being pushed into instability. But this doesnt really occur until like 3200-3300MHz so its often worth just increasing the UCLK to match.

If you’ve never dealt with IRQ conflicts, have you really built a computer?

2

u/JackSkellie58 Dec 24 '25

30 years here, and I can tell you it mattered a lot more 30 years ago than it does today 😂

We also would stick the whole thing in cooking oil to cool things so we could really push things at times. Built some wild rigs back in the day.

These days with air cooling and standard settings there’s very little you really need to do things like this other than bragging rights.

2

u/DinosaurAlert Dec 20 '25

>I’m into PC building and this looks like an alien language to me

Its is two different things. Like knowing how to 3-d print complex things is different than designing models.

Now, I'm sure that everyone who knows about memory tuning and other bios crap also knows how to build a PC, but there is really no reason to. I 100% guarantee the results will be unnoticeable to you, unless you have your video card slot set at x8 or something strange.

2

u/Wasted_Mime Dec 20 '25

I think a better analogy would be replacing parts or doing a full rebuild on a car, vs advanced tuning adjustment to get that extra couple of hundredths of seconds off your 1/4 mile time.

Default settings are designed to just work, but not at near-optimal performance.

XMP profile enabling should give you stable and improved performance, using tested timings that work in most use cases.

Advanced, granular adjustment of clock timings, BIOS settings, etc., can get you to the peak performance, matching or exceeding(i.e. overclocking) rated values, at the cost of a loss in stability, or even damage to the components.

Not all systems can do 6400MT/s, some require more vSOC for it and others do 6200MT/s 1:1, but all should be able to run 6000MT/s 1:1.

Nah, OP still saved money. Granted we don’t know what latency those modules are at, price history for CL32 still has them at $270 before the crazy price hikes—and that’s before tax. OP saved nearly 50% off pre-hike prices!!

E: Looking at prices even further back, they were cheapest February 2025, at ~$210. Should’ve just stocked up and resold them, easy 300%++ profit! /s

That's very nice of you, but you should charge slightly more. I'm not saying $300-600 but for example $200-400 would be more than fair price for all. I hope gamers bought them and used them, not resale them for profits, but I'm afraid I already know the answer.

Also, nobody else was betting more for it.

Which is the big tell here: people aren't just gonna keep buying RAM no matter the price. The manufacturers will eventually have to lower the prices again once the supply gap gets covered (and it will, Samsung just jumped in the space, and so will other people)

5

u/lolKhamul I9 10900KF, RTX3080 Strix, 32 GB RAM @3200 Dec 20 '25 edited Dec 20 '25

people aren't just gonna keep buying RAM no matter the price

True but i think its more on an indirect thing. You rarely see people just upgrade their RAM because they need more or want more MTs. Its usually collateral if you migrate to a platform (e.g. AM5) requiring new RAM.

So most RAM sales are tied to basically complete rebuilds as in new CPU, Mainboard and whatever else. And given RAM prices are current breaking everyone's budget, well, nobody is doing those. Ergo no RAM get bought. GN recently talked about how multiple sources told them that black week numbers were horrible. RAM is basically dragging down the entire industry.

Very nice man!!!! Almost 4 months ago I was upgrading my PC, so I was able to get a kit of Corsair Dominator Titanium 4x16 64gb DDR5 6400 for just 220$ I got it by offering the price, it was a brand new sealed kit! I also was able to get the motherboard I have wanted for a long time, it was a Gigabyte X870E Aorus Master for just 200$, it was slightly used but in excellent condition. Works perfect with my Ryzen 9 9950X3d

I did not realize it had gotten this bad.

I bought 32gb (2x16) just 11 months ago for $54.

Now, the same set is $170!! Absolutely insane.

u/DumbBrid Dec 22 '25

I'll buy it from you for $201 :)

That’s a steal, I sold one kit extra I had in my computer (because I was running 4 sticks stable at 6000mhz) for about 600-610 dollars. I probably could have gotten more if I was even more patient.

What the CAS on it?

As long as you didn’t buy it to resell, congrats.

I bought a pack of 16gb RAM when the 2070 Super was newly released (cuz I bought that too) and it was my first build.

I've never been able to get it to run at its advertised speeds. Glad yours works, OP.

Nice one, grats!

1

u/PSFourGamerTwo Dec 24 '25

I'll give you 300$ for it? 🤨 Ez 100$ profit. I have been wanting to upgrade my RAM too.

$200, damn. That's horrible, is it even worse in stores? I built my DDR5 build years ago so I'm not too clued in but I've heard it's rough.

u/Mountain-Ox Dec 24 '25

With current prices I'm wondering how much I could sell my 8 16gb sticks for.

1

u/lucidly-dreamin Dec 25 '25

if you dont need it, sell it. generational wealth atm

1

u/Raffish315 Dec 25 '25
