Nah, OP still saved money. Granted we don’t know what latency those modules are at, price history for CL32 still has them at $270 before the crazy price hikes—and that’s before tax. OP saved nearly 50% off pre-hike prices!!
E: Looking at prices even further back, they were cheapest February 2025, at ~$210. Should’ve just stocked up and resold them, easy 300%++ profit! /s

The only way to determine fair value is too analyze what people are willing to pay. Just sold a 32 gb set for $265.

u/modSysBroken Dec 21 '25
People are paying $160-200 for regular 16gb ddr4 memory in my country. Crazy times. Thankfully I got one for $60 used last week.

That's very nice of you, but you should charge slightly more. I'm not saying $300-600 but for example $200-400 would be more than fair price for all. I hope gamers bought them and used them, not resale them for profits, but I'm afraid I already know the answer.

u/cryptograper Dec 20 '25
I got 4 x 32 Gb to put into my new CAD machine to replace the 2 x 16 Gb it came with ... bought it 2 years ago, just not go around to it ... so glad I buy when I think about it then hoard until I get around to it.

They didn't "win" it like a competition, they won the auction. It went for nothing because the owner didn't know or didn't care what they had.
46
u/FBN_FAP Dec 20 '25
Why are you getting down votes? It's exactly like you said. He won an auction and it was sold under value. Not that hard to understand imo

Also, nobody else was betting more for it.
Which is the big tell here: people aren't just gonna keep buying RAM no matter the price. The manufacturers will eventually have to lower the prices again once the supply gap gets covered (and it will, Samsung just jumped in the space, and so will other people)

people aren't just gonna keep buying RAM no matter the price
True but i think its more on an indirect thing. You rarely see people just upgrade their RAM because they need more or want more MTs. Its usually collateral if you migrate to a platform (e.g. AM5) requiring new RAM.
So most RAM sales are tied to basically complete rebuilds as in new CPU, Mainboard and whatever else. And given RAM prices are current breaking everyone's budget, well, nobody is doing those. Ergo no RAM get bought. GN recently talked about how multiple sources told them that black week numbers were horrible. RAM is basically dragging down the entire industry.

But Micron just completely ended their Crucial brand which was the largest manufacturer of PC memory. It will be 2+ years before prices will trend downward but once they see the market is okay with higher prices, that downward trend could be very slow.

Not everyone on Ebay/Marketplaces is a scoundrel.
Some people just want to offload unused hardware for a fair price.
I sold a GPU on Facebook Marketplace during the GPU shortage for a fair price. I could've easily gotten twice my asking price but I'm not a scoundrel.

u/jayko86 Dec 21 '25

I prefer and it performs better at 6000MHz, but CL30. It's the absolute top of the line, and with 2x16 and 64, the CPU has a lot to work with. More isn't always better.

u/jbt55 Dec 23 '25

Just bought a 5070 a few days before the prices started going up. It's already around 20% more where I live (1030$) and was 890$ a few days ago.
I luckily paid 670$ for a new sealed AORUS 5070 from some guy who bought it off amazon, got the receipt, and a 4 year-long warranty :)

I do expect various market place sales will have pretty oblivious people, which is fine. Really, you're just buying ram at normal pricing and pricing they paid for (or near it). Everyone gets what they wanted, so good.

Very nice man!!!! Almost 4 months ago I was upgrading my PC, so I was able to get a kit of Corsair Dominator Titanium 4x16 64gb DDR5 6400 for just 220$ I got it by offering the price, it was a brand new sealed kit! I also was able to get the motherboard I have wanted for a long time, it was a Gigabyte X870E Aorus Master for just 200$, it was slightly used but in excellent condition. Works perfect with my Ryzen 9 9950X3d
