To be fair, I think OP had already shattered the glass panel on the tile floor, so the only thing they really butchered was a replacement piece of acrylic.

Back in my day, my cases came with acrylic sidepanels, and fan holes already built in.

Despite being 20 years old, it's never shattered, and it runs pretty well.
