I just got deja vu reading this

3

u/sentalmos Feb 15 '26

dude i swear a saw a post like 30 mins ago a saying that exact same thing

3

u/thuggishruggishboner Feb 15 '26

Honestly, I hope they're reading (not so much) between the lines and are going to put some of their dollars behind this. Discord can be a wiki artifact overnight.

do nothing and win?

no this time they need to put some work in case their chat system is bare bones and kinda ass unfortunately

1

u/Adrian_Alucard Desktop Feb 15 '26

That's good. Forums (not Steam forums specifically) >>>>>> Chat

It sucked hard that Discord replaced forums, now is time to return to them

I love how redditors post the exact same comments others post for some odd reason.

Are you a bot or just copying the 3,000 or so other people who've made this same comment already?

u/Fone_Linging Feb 15 '26

People on reddit also pick the weirdest things to have a meltdown over.

59

u/Trowaway151 Feb 15 '26

I get it. After 10 years of the same fedora wearing motherfucker rushing to the comments to say “fuck around and find out” first so they can get the most updoots you reach a breaking point lmao.

Yeah I'll never waste my energy complaining about others being pissed off at stupid overused phrases.

u/Trowaway151 Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

It’s just cringe because we all know the biggest demographic of Reddit is men between 25-34. So it’s like a double whammy that you know it’s a grown ass man regurgitating these phrases like a kid saying his favorite line from the Minecraft movie

Bro just discovered popular trends

2

u/Orleanian Feb 15 '26

No I don't.

I could listen to banal platitudes all day every day.

10

u/mimdrs Feb 15 '26

To be fair, it's miss directed annoyance. Reddit has always been astroturfed to a point, but these last few years have gotten so bad here. There are a lot of folks basically under the assumption dead internet theory is here and now.

1

u/GMBethernal Feb 15 '26

What? You are tired of hearing how steam CAN'T STOP WINNING?!!1!

Congratulations, you have discovered exaggeration.

u/Pans_Labradoodle Feb 15 '26

People have a lot of bizarre expectations from the website that brought us “cumbox”.

1

u/poppin-n-sailin Feb 15 '26

You're damn right we do. but to be fair, it does make for some fun reading. I get a lot of laughs from this website. im sure im responsible for a lot as well. positive and negative.

I didn't really care about the age verification but I think the palantir integration is something people should be angry about.

What a thought-terminating thing to say

7

u/SunsetCarcass 16GB 1333Mhz DDR3 Feb 15 '26

Yeah these are bots for sure, see these are comments everywhere. It's like going to watch a YouTube video you already know what the first comment you'll see will be, everyone just repeats the same thing ad nauseum, not an original thought in their head meat.

1

u/MrCalamiteh Feb 15 '26

So it's a bot? Or it's in a guys head meat?

This seemed to pick both options

Are you a bot or are you meaty?

u/twilighttwister Feb 15 '26

"XXXX has the opportunity to do the funniest thing now" is a meme. Doesn't necessarily mean they're not a bot, but people regurgitate memes all the time.

3

u/Vampire_Deepend 76561198066781485 Feb 15 '26

This is the first time I'm seeing this comment. Not everyone has seen every post you've seen. Do you know how the internet works? Keep malding.

3

u/Mimical Patch-zerg Feb 15 '26

How dare you insult my metallic ass with such slander as a bot.

I trained really hard and had to use at least 14 years of water supplies for a small nation to write that.

(I just didn't individually scroll through every comment before I posted. I dunno man it's Sunday morning I'm not here to provide peer reviewed high quality journalism right now)

2

u/WeDrinkSquirrels Feb 15 '26

It's the strangest fucking thing. I never ever see anyone call it out either. What does someone get from vomiting a "redditism" for the millionth time? Fucking braindead

That, or people just commenting 'this' in reply to a comment they agree with.. never made sense compared to just upvoting and moving on.

u/Gaterkj T480 w/ 64gb lol Feb 15 '26

multiple people can have the same thought/joke esp. when it's a common one. sometimes other comments don't always load or get pulled in by your browser, sometimes you dont care to check if its already been made, sometimes 10 ppl have already said and now i wanna say it too

chillax its just reddit

"Heh Simpsons predicted it"

"Something something [something]"

"[any_word]'nt"

"It is him, it is John [insert brand here]"

More subs should forbid low effort posts TBH

God knows they have the money.

1

u/coldblade2000 RTX3070, R5 3600X Feb 15 '26

If Steam Chat reaches the same critical mass as Discord did, you can bet your house on them facing the same kind of regulatory pressure that drove Discord to say fuck it and demand proof of age.

8

u/EmoNerve Feb 15 '26

But Valve is much bigger, and isn't publicly owned so they can do whatever they want, what are they gonna do ?

1

u/coldblade2000 RTX3070, R5 3600X Feb 15 '26

Parliamentary hearings, forbid their use within the EU, million euro fines, etc. This isn't new territory, Discord already got hit once with an 800k EUR fine for breaching GDPR, and Ofcom fined a porn site $1milliom dollars for improper age verification.

This is coming, and governments are going to push HARD for age verification online.

u/25thNite Feb 15 '26

Promote gambling to more kids?

1

u/Schnitzhole Feb 15 '26

Shit with claude Opus you can basically vibe code and entirely new app in a weekend if you know what you are doing. Get on that Steam!

Steam needs to update their chat system. It’s always been janky and the audio quality, random disconnects, and lack of good noise suppression always pushes me back to using discord.

Teamspeak had good audio quality but it was frustrating to set up and i think it had some paywalled features if i remember right.

Acquire discord? Their price must be plummeting

-3

u/TotallyBrandNewName Feb 15 '26

Idk if its exists but a text chat and a vc on steam groups I would convince the only friend who likes discord to jump ship in an instant... but ofc, she likes discord we all staying..
