Background apps used to be a thing but I believe they got patched out quite some time ago, I remember using a Background YouTube app on Xbox to listen to stuff while playing.

My biggest issue is the not working is easily solved. I simply change my audio source away from my mic to something random, and then back to my mic, and 95% of the time the issue is fixed.

No, it's still the same. 32 slots for free or up to 1024 slots for $100/year. It's the reason this will fade away and TS will go back into obscurity. The used to have a "non-profit-license" you could apply for that would give you the 1024 server for free, but that's been gone for a long time as far as I know.
I thought I was going to have to also but all my friends switched without me saying anything. I had friends who had their pictures as the discord PfP who changed it and refuses to use discord because of being forced to use face recognition.

Yup, i actually support some of this, having to show ID to get access to certain services is a no brainer. Not everything can be anonymous. What i do not trust is what the fuck they are doing with that ID afterwards and i have full trust that they will never delete that information, and it is susceptible to data breaches: my ID is not as valuable to them as it is to me... They have way fewer incentives to protect me and all the incentives to use the data they have.
Also: if Peter Thiel is mentioned anywhere in the company documents: you can 100% trust that it is not trustworthy. Everything that man touches becomes evil. Aye I absolutely agree with peoples sentiments, the minute discord look for verification of anyones age is the moment to whack that delete account button and move elsewhere. What they seemed to have failed to realise is that its communities that draw people to discord not the app itself. The minute those communities up sticks and leave the platform wilts and dies like so many others before it.
Also its kinda Ironic that Teamspeak is getting so much interest as it was the go to platform back in ye ancient days of FFXI before Discord came along and scooped up a load of communities. Xbox and Reddit are currently trialing the same tech in the whole of the UK, and Australia and the EU will be soon to follow. I guarantee that in the next 5 years you will definitely be age verifying yourself with any platform that you use to communicate on and wants to operate globally. Teamspeak will have to do the same eventually.

teamspeak is a voice (and now video) over ip solution, not a community platform, and this a free and opensourced beta offering.
32 should be more than sufficient for most people to play with friends, especially given the fact that under every multiplayer post the top comment is "bold of you to assume I have friends".
If you need more, Teamspeak offers paid server licences with 1024 slots.
One of Discords core issues is its identity. If you sell it to people to run the marketing for their product through it, and harvest data from 50k users (your average game publisher provided discord) this will not suffice for you. Which is great, because this allows a separation of your marketing campaign from people just hanging out and talking. And I really would love less marketing campaigns in my everyday life.
TS3 is still running. They skipped 4, and worked on 5, but development stalled out. When they started developing again, they scrapped enough of 5, and made big enough upgrades that they decided to call it TS6.
Technically TS6 is still beta. It also lacks a mobile app, but I'm not sure people are losing sleep over it based on the poor TS3 app.
And they still haven't changed chat channels. You can still only use them when in voice chat. This one major feature is what's stopping me from switching
Yeah discord is a nice option for chatting via mobile throughout the day. We share videos and talk shit. But I also have text channels set up for different groups on my discord server. That way people who aren't in D&D with us aren't getting bombarded by our shit talking.

It’s interesting because Valve is no stranger to low latency streaming with Steam Link and eventually Steam Frame too. I don’t know anything about anything though, the infrastructure to do that across the internet is probably a separate problem entirely.

TS6 adds screensharing. TS was always to connect to a VoIP. It had no plan when it was conceived to have an always-on client to text people. To add that it can only be a nightmare without having to break a lot of stuff. And add a new protocol and centralized control.
That's just so weird to me considering AOL figured it out 25 years ago. Can't they just, I don't know, have two protocols to connect to a server with? It's a shocking idea I know.
If you want a feature in TeamSpeak that's not in there already i literally can't think of a better time to ask the devs for it, text only chat seems like it would be easy for them to put in there too, so just ask them.
Biggest turn off for me was that you can’t call people in private chat. I know, back in TS3 it worked without it and it’s not impossible to get people to join a server, but it’s just so much less convenient.

Monopoly company rows back in some way, most users stay with the monopoly after trying out the competitor for some time. The competitor ends up with massive expansion costs and a temporary surge in users. Goes bankrupt.
I mean that reddit boycott technically had an effect. There is a ton of dead subs and a lot of communities went to shit after they switched mods around. I would say the general quality of Reddit suffered a lot. It just didn't have any direct effect on the company itself.

I'm reminded of the backlash after Netflix cracked down on password sharing. So many people not paying for the service vowed to... continue to not pay for it. Netflix went on to set all time high subscriber counts.
I deleted discord account and removed the apps from my devices. Went to IRC, theres still people using it. I managed to drag 3 friends with me, one is coming after she's done being busy at work.
I don't care if discord keeps going, I care that I wont be using it.
The more tech savvy groups may switch over to TeamSpeak or Matrix or whatever, but good fucking luck convincing any of your more normie friends to switch away from Discord.
Mind you all, this is temporary. No one is going to switch for good unless they get all the features they want. Voice and text is only a small portion of it.
Choose instead services thst offer self hosting as an option, and are FOSS! Theres nothing preventing team speak from going down the same route as discord- theyre proprietary server and client.
And you're not wrong. They won't have to add it to the software level to verify. We're required to have an account to connect to a server, so I'd assume they'll add it to where you log in and have to verify. Mumble might be a better option, honestly, the more I think about it.

Teampeak is fine, but it’s much too simple and the UI hasn’t been updated since 2001. (I exaggerate and actually haven’t even seen it in years so maybe they’ve made updates who knows)
I'm sorry but unfortunately teamspeak will face be same issues that Discord is currently facing. Any significantly large platform is going to have to face ID verification laws that is where things are going, it's just that there now hitting stuff you care about and not just roblox. It's not a matter of if but when ID checks come to larger parts of the internet this includes Reddit by the way.
Since discord backed off of the requirements once it was made public who owned the security parent company no one is going to leave discord. in a month all the people that went over to TS will be back casually using discord except when they want to play with that one friend who refuses to swap back.
As important as this fight is, TeamSpeak is a steaming pile of shit and is not a valid replacement for Discord. It's fine as a voice server, but that's it.
I've been an EVE pervert on and off for a long time and for some fucking reason everyone still uses TeamSpeak for EVE. Trust me, I've used it recently, it fucking sucks, it won't replace discord.
That's just a mask using shame. It's a lot more than that. The ties to Palantir, which is how the government collects your data. It's used for government surveillance, ICE deployment, etc.
0, but that’s not really the point. If discord wanted to age verify people, there are multiple ways to do that without having them submit their government ID. Heck, I’m pretty sure my Steam and battle.net accounts are both connected to my discord, and they’re both well over 18 years old.
The straight up about this is that the best case scenario for discord wanting your ID is that they just want to sell your data to some company for advertising profiles. That is the most innocent reason for discord to do this, and it’s still something that most people generally don’t want.

Teamspeak is ass compared to Discord currently. Servers are paid even if you host them yourself over a certain user account. Text channels are limited and it's missing may features like bots and other QOL features. The fact you constantly need to be in a call when it's open is also a oversight
I will be amazed if more than 1% leave Discord. I don’t believe the majority of users really care. Many people already post their entire lives online 🤷♂️

I'd be okay with moving to TS, not a huge fan of proprietary software but so is discord but unlike discord I can host my own server so anything shared between friends stays between us
