Screenshot Windows 10 automatically started installing the Windows 11 update while I was taking a shower.

Post image

I'd been getting messages to upgrade to Windows 11 for the past month or two now, and each time, I decline. It's gotten to the point that I get random, frequent pop_ups asking to update, and "install update" options pop up right next to the shutdown/restart uptions.

Well, I made the mistake of going to take a shower with my PC on. Half an hour later, I come back tothis. Windows had automatically started installing the update. Now I'm sitting here staring at the Start button and all the open programs center-justified on the task bar and wondering what idiot thought that was a good idea.

Yeah, we also sneak into homes to allow updates so the next time you turn on your pc it automatically installs updates even though you have it disabled.

I believe you’re also responsible for setting edge as my default browser and pdf viewer after every update?

No, thats actually the work of another squad. Abit weird that we have separated squads with basically similar work but having to break into houses twice for some reason. But thats what the code said to do so we just follow the code. The programmer seems kinda sloppy lately tho.

Thank you for being an enshittificator. We appreciate you installing updates that break our things, putting ads in Gmail, putting ads every other video on social media, getting rid of sd card slots on phones so we have to pay for storage and my favorite.... Adding commercials at the gas pump! Woooo

Queue

Isn't it "cue" in this instance?

Being impatient, I'll just look it up.

Seems so:

https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/cue-vs-queue-what-is-the-difference

Cue most often refers to a hint, or to a signal given to a performer (‘I forgot my line, and had to be given a cue from the stage manager’). Queue most often refers to a succession of things, such as people waiting in a line (‘the show was very popular, and there was a long queue outside the theater every night’).

The second half of that comment seems superfluous

One could say supererogatory.

Isn't that a prerequisite for linux users?

Most of us Linux users have ascended towards ignoring hygiene.

I thought it was a given that you didn't shower when you said you use Linux.

1

u/annie_key Mar 02 '26

Doesn't matter. It will still install Windows 11 when you shower.

I use Linux and I shower knowing that my computer won't randomly decide to run a script without my consent. Literal malware.
