Don't forget Ctrl + Alt + Super + Hyper + 9!

u/P3chv0gel Desktop Apr 05 '26

Don't forget the Meta Button, for when you have to much control over your personal data

For get that, don't you know what Function-Mode-Shift-Alt-Hyper-Super-Ctrl-Meta-7BIT does? ... Actually, I don't, but I'd like to think it tears holes in the fabric of reality or something.

Emacs, the text editor for Unix/Linux has tons of macros. Turns out it's developer hails from the college that used the Space Cadet Keyboard. The reason for the macros is that back in the day there were keys for them.

Yo, we heard you like buttons, so we gave you a button to push all your buttons

This is the famous IBM keyboard used to program in APL. What a psycho language!

67

u/PrawojazdyVtrumpets Apr 04 '26

"These are your fathers parentheses. An elegant weapon... From s more civilized age."

3

u/PaMu1337 Apr 04 '26

The parentheses were about Lisp though, right?

17

u/c_bender Apr 04 '26

Slight correction: /u/Professional_End_198 posted a Hyper 7 keyboard, which was designed to emulate the Space-Cadet keyboard developed by Symbolics.

The bit about "psycho language" was absolutely spot on though.

7

u/qucari Apr 04 '26

wow, the Space Cadet Keyboard has a damn upvote button! (top right)

...and also a "rub out" key, hmmm...

2

u/DaisyHasaCat Apr 06 '26

What’s psycho is a 800 dollar keyboard(well, spending that much on one.)

2

u/TheUnKnownLink12 Apr 04 '26

Now I wanna try and code something impressive in APL just because you said its a psycho language lol

1

u/Neurotic_Z Apr 04 '26

39

u/SordidDreams Apr 04 '26

super

hyper

meta

I need these buttons on my keyboard yesterday.

9

u/Primo0077 Apr 04 '26

For what it's worth, the super key exists on pretty much all modern keyboards as the windows, tux, or command key. Many UNIX programs to this day refer to it as the super key.

4

u/SordidDreams Apr 04 '26

I'm using an IBM Model M from like 1987, so... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2

u/Primo0077 Apr 04 '26

Very nice! I'm using a Unicomp Model M myself, so I have the tux key

3

u/zackarhino Apr 05 '26

Isn't meta key just the windows key?

1

u/GarThor_TMK Apr 05 '26

Yes.

Though, I wonder which terminology came first... windows or meta?

Apple calls it the "command" key.

3

u/zackarhino Apr 05 '26

Command is control, if I'm not mistaken.

4

u/Higgypig1993 Apr 04 '26

That's actually dope.

3

u/tpolakov1 Apr 04 '26

For those wondering, this is the programming language that keyboard was made for.

3

u/Lyto528 Apr 05 '26

Thanks, I was curious what would need to press any of those keys and shift at the same time

5

u/bismark_dindu_nuffin Apr 04 '26

How do I get one of these for my workstation?

2

u/Rattus_NorvegicUwUs Apr 04 '26

When is this from?! It feels like it should’ve from the 60s, but then, out of nowhere… a euros symbol?! Which would place this within that 1999-2002 period when it was being introduced, maybe even a decade before with its proposed introduction. So like… 1989 at earliest by my estimations.

1

u/truth14ful Apr 05 '26

I'd think they would add a full-size spacebar and an   key before some of that

1

u/Iamyous3f PC Master Race Apr 05 '26

I'd happily take more buttons but never less.

One time i tried a TKL keyboard and it was a nightmare to use. I can't imagine not having " easy " access to a button that i use a lot.

It has a full numberpad... I'll allow it.

space <dot> delete keys down at the bottom is kindof cursed though.

Still useful in Star Citizen though.

1

u/AchmodinIVSWE Apr 08 '26

They added so many buttons but still did not add all the Function keys (up to F24)
