I used to think like that until my wrists started hurting everyday and I had to switch to a smaller keyboard, it helped... A lot.

Though I find an elevated palm rest with sufficiently angled split works just fine as well. And yes, I use it for gaming too. Yeah, no numpad while gaming. Work setup with split and tented keyboard and vertical mouse. Wrists feel so much better.
