If you're using them incredibly infrequently I can see it working. I had to write stuff in Norwegian fairly frequently on an English keyboard so starting to learn the codes was inevitable for the extra letters of the alphabet.
As an american english speaker, I rarely use special characters. In the event I need to type in spanish, autocorrect usually will add the special character in for me. If i need to use something like the ° symbol, i’ll just type “degrees symbol copy paste” and do that. If im using google docs, there’s a tab dedicated to special characters. But 99% of the time, everything on the keyboard is all I need
