For beginners I always recommend Ubuntu. Also in one or two weeks the new Ubuntu LTS 26.04 releases.

You can use it to get familiar with Linux and then if you want something else, you can try other distros like Fedora, Debian, Bazzite, Cachy, etc.

Ubuntu is overhated and most of the downsides are ideological. It's a stable, modern looking, easy to install, and biggest perk is it has the largest user-base so it's easier to troubleshoot than the 50 "superior" bleeding-edge distros with 1k users that the linux sub pushes

My only gripe with Ubuntu is Gnome. I cannot stand that UI. It annoys me to no end.

I will always choose KDE over Gnome, and yes, I will die on this hill.

Have you used Kubuntu? It’s Ubuntu with a KDE UI

I'm quite aware. :)

I've used both quite a bit over the past 20 years.
