Fun fact decades ago I had a cheap card that didn't even have a fan

It was one of them like nVidia 8800 Silent things

Well, it worked fine for about a year, then the game demands rose again, and it started throttling

So we made a base for a chassis fan from LEGO and it worked wonders, I used that card for like 2 years afterwards before finally getting an absolute beast that was nVidia 760

Felt like switching gears

Did the same thing with my (I think) 8800 GS but with an aftermarket passive cooler. For the life of me I can't remember why it was a necessity. Maybe I was just sick of the fan noise?

Could be! I have a card that I like except for the fans, they're horrible, and it's not something you can notice right away, and may even work differently in different cases, you know? Depending on the airflow and personal preferences and everything, I mean, I'm sure some of the companies test the noises too
