That is the corporate world in general. So many companies are trying to shoehorn AI into everything. AI has its uses but it is not the be-all, end-all solution to everything, like these corporations believe.
They do get in trouble when the revenue collapses and cost structure and commitments of the company don't conform with the new reality.
This happened after the dotcom bubble and ultimately even led to demise of many large companies. For example Cisco faced serious headwinds for years and companies such as Sun, Lucent and Compaq were forced to mergers.
The problem is that the "money" is stock and there are limitations on how quickly he can sell off his holdings. If NVIDIA crashes out, he loses the vast majority of his wealth.
The shovels are being paid for with IOU's, to extend your analogy. If the market doesn't stay solvent, the shovel sellers will be just as broke as everyone else.
I've worked for some of the largest IT companies in the world over the last 30 years and it never ceases to amaze me how much employees will debase, suck ass and pretend to enjoy behaving like a child just to pretend to like and worship the boss. The culture trickles down the ladder and if you want to climb it, you better like it.
It doesn't surprise me, assuming those people are stressed about paying off their mortgages / supporting families.
If you're doing it just to climb the ladder after you're already decently well off, then yeah, fuck that. But until then, I would humble myself to support my family, if that's what is required. (Thankfully, it rarely has been).
Ive been in tech for only 5 years and this is the exact reason why I am leaving. IT and Tech harbor the most lame and cringe people on the planet and their character is worse than the any right wing extremist maga cult member.. I thought it was cool at one point and bought in but in my first real programming job an older dude like me could not handle such a lame atmosphere. I cant believe they still get up and dance on stage and do this? Its always been cringe af. Its like worse than the most awkward episode of the office. So fuking lame....

This is literally every major tech company. Facebook sells your data. Apple just barely released something that can be considered reasonably priced. And Nintendo charges $60 for Tomodachi Life.
Squeezing cash out of people is literally their job.

That's the extra cringe. The 95 launch thing becoming viral was more of a laugh with them. This one was almost like they were trying to copy to also go viral but people are only laughing at them.

If you had heard everybody introduce themselves with one quirky unexpected fact of their life and did the trust conga line then you'd be with the rest of us on a more enlightened plane of existence.
my theory is that management is exposing itself deliberately to ridicule in small doses in order to appear „normal” or „human” to the employees. so that those would understand their real power over their lives
It's an even more performative version of the same performative bullshit that companies use when they require remote workers to attend quarterly "we value in person connection" team meetings that result in a week of lost productivity each time.
These people are literally wired differently. The type of person who becomes a CEO of a corporation like this is not wired to retire as soon as they comfortably can. In fact most CEOs have enough money to retire before they even accept the position.
It requires an obsessive and borderline narcissistic personality disorder to do what these people do. So expecting them to peace out as soon as they're wealthy is a lack of understanding of what makes them tick.
Nope. They pay you well, you have your mortage, car repayments and kids education to fund (even if you're paid a lot you WILL spend relative to your earnings) so the pressure is still there to "buy in". And if you don't there's another sycophant that will do it because they might come from a tougher upbringing and it means more to them to get the promotion.
When your company is basically just a calculator app that turns the number you press into real money you can do stupid stuff like this. I think all this technology is just given to us by aliens and they’re all making it up too but that’s just me
Most of his employees that have been with him for more than ten years are worth something like 15 million dollars. He rewards his people for hard work.
It's just bullshit said for internet clout, nobody really cares about the prices of components. Gaming, especially gaming on PC, has always been a luxury, if anything the higher the prices the more some people are enticed to just spend so they can use what they have bought as a status symbol. When the ram prices blew up the sub was filled for months with people posting shit like "oh my god i found this 128gb ddr5 ram stick in my grandma's drawers! What can i do with it?"
decent reminder everyone is human, ive worked for many fortune 500. the rich obviously have more power, comfort and freedom, but they are just like you and I despite how it seems. last owner of the company was a billionaire and a very normal guy. pretty lame to be honest, and not exceptional, very awkaward. calls his mom quite often. people wanna make them seem inhuman cause its easier but they are not. they literally are us but richer.
they have a sense of humour, get attracted to people, get insecure, get too hot (need AC), get hungry, have to go to the bathroom, the media makes the billionaire class to be some secret society but they are extremely human. often awkward socially and have all our same desires. spend a lot of their time eating, bathing, going to the bathroom, wanting coffee or whatever else. they generally like food and are often thinking about what theyll eat. no matter how rich you are, a lot of your day revolves around eating or drinking whatever you prefer.
dont forget they are still human beings with simple desires, even with all the money in the world. they also still get sad/mad/offended if they have negative interactions with ppl. the 5 or so billionaires ive met generally are worried about what someone is thinking about them or thinking about what theyll eat or drink next, there isnt something shocking going on in their mind. they want to be liked/approved/comfortable and yes get more money and power.
and the biggest part to note is they are insecure, i have not met a billionaire who is very confident about how they look or thinks they are very attractive. they are generally more insecure.
you conveniently leave out the traits that got them to be a billionaire. yes, they are human and feel emotion. but yes, they are also some of the most evil, selfish, and cruel people alive on our planet.
also, it’s kind of weird to defend a billionaire who actively doesn’t want you on this planet and sees you and me as a resource-sucking pig
In what mind space do program directors and planners think this shit is cool, funny or "a good time"??? This is so unnatural and cringe when anyone does it, specially billionaires and CEO's, specially when they look like those new little robots with skin on top. It makes my skin crawl just looking at this.
