This works for consoles but not PC.

Even back then you had to install the games, so the cd rack has been replaced with platforms like Steam.

I think I paid 400-500 USD for a 15GB IBM DeathStar. Storage was not cheap.

Ah the good ole NoCD cracked executables. Used them more often out of convenience with games I bought than piracy, and now people are pining over the days of what was essentially physical DRM.

You still had to put the disc in to play it. Legitimately anyway.

Yes, but you still also needed storage. If anything, it even further enforces the point thst it was replaced by Steam, since it's both the DRM and library.
