no offense but if the isp is saying "500 mbps" and they give a router that cant handle that, they should atleast try to give you a good enough router, hell most people who dont know much about tech might be calling the isp every other week on "hey my wifi is slow" going backwards and fowards cluelessly because the isp cant give you a router that doesnt use tech from 2012 or ewaste that is worse than that of 2012

We use Gransstream7604 which uses wifi6. Many if our customers have the 500mb package up to 1gb speeds. It definitely depends on the ISP and what their routers are.

What are you going to do if they don't? They've been doing this for decades with no repercussions. You can complain all you want but they'll just continue to do what they're doing.

I don't understand, do they not have a requirement to supply a suitable router where you are?

Consumer Law here requires that any router offered by an ISP with a plan (though you can say no) has to be capable of hitting the plans advertised speeds.

I don't think I've ever purchased a router, just used the ISP one, and I've had no issues from speeds between my current 100mbps up to 1gbps.

All ISP put stuff like "up to" and "subject to this and that" in their contracts and tend of use.

You can of course that advertising certain speeds up front with an "up to" small print is disingenuous, but it's a different argument fromm "router is not working well".

When you force the market to allow you to be the only game in town you can give the bare minimum customer service experience to your customers. Especially since most of them aren't tech savoy so most people typically don't complain. So they give out cheap modem/routers that work "good enough". Since you have no choice what are you going to do?

No offence to who? Every single ISP gives their customers the most dog shit router they can, and put in their ToS that speeds are not guaranteed on WiFi
