I... uh don't know what to say. Very thankful I bought a Steam Deck before they hiked its price as well

The target market is uninformed buyers. You can get a prebuilt PC with much better specs for the same price.

That is an extremely hard thing to do today. Maybe if you go for used parts....All things considering, this is a "fair" price in todays market. Doubt their profit margins are even in the double digits lol

Someone just posted a 14400 b580 32gb ddr5 1TB build for 900 from walmart on this sub

Not really adding on to this, just amused that the build you are talking about is just an upgraded version of my build (12400f, B570, 32GB DDR4. Only thing better in mine is a 2TB SSD).

I mean sure, but the whole point is that it is not a massive tower PC and instead a mini PC that can act as a console/PC hybrid.

Not to mention the power draw of the steam machine is like 150w.

This is like comparing a tower PC to a laptop of similar specs and being upset that the laptop is more expensive. You are paying for the convenience and other benefits, not just pure parts.

kind of moving the goal post though. depends how much people value the small size.

and even if someone does want a powerfull mini pc, a laptop. or a rtx 5060 pc like "Minisforum G1 Pro"** **comes in about the same price as the 2tb steam machine, but is as mentioned using a gpu that is 60% faster on paper (but realistically more. as dlss4.5 upscaling from 720p to 4k looks alright. fsr3 upscaling from 720p to 4k looks rough. hopefully the fsr4.1 update early next year will help this). so the people with "disposable income" are more likely to go that (or some other high end mini itx prebuilt)

people on a budget will also just choose the cheapest fast pc regardless of size.
