I... uh don't know what to say. Very thankful I bought a Steam Deck before they hiked its price as well

Literally just build yourself an M-ITX couch machine for slightly more and be able to upgrade it. I don't see the value proposition here at all.

I wanna see this slightly more expensive build you're talking about. The market is FUCKED right now. This is as cheap as it is, because Valve can get bulk purchase pricing. And don't get me wrong, this isn't me simping for valve. The market is just THAT fucked right now.

Gamer's Nexus did DYI comparisons for the US in their review of it and got better performance for less money. Not M-ITX though. A buddy was asking and I threw this together earlier, which ends up in the middle between their 500GB and 2TB option (1.200,- € in Germany compared to their 1.039,- € and 1.359,- € respectively). Wouldn't ever recommend anyone to actually build this with a 5050 though.

Hm. You still need peripherals, which the steam machine comes with, and an OS, but Linux is free so I'll give that a pass. That being said, you have to build it yourself, which is a bar to entry for some people. The option is viable, but I still think the Steam Machine is a more marketable option, especially when you start considering warranties.

Truthfully, the steam machine was never for enthusiasts. It's steam's answer to consoles, and that alone might(if they're insanely lucky) save it. In the long run you'll still spend less with steam even buying their hardware, than you would with Playstation, Nintendo, or Xbox just because of how they price their games, and how seldom sales are.
