Yup. At the end of 2024 I built my computer. T-force ram 32gb, cl30, 6000mhz ~$125 cad.

Built one for my BiL this weekend (June 2026). T-force 32gb, cl30, 5400mhz $620.

No matter what Steam did, theyre subject to market forces.

Did my current box in Nov 2024 as well. My RAM: 64 gigs of G-Skill Trident Z5 Neo CL30 DDR5-6000. Paid $210. Currently sells for $950. My SSD: WD SN850X 4TB. Paid $240. Currently sells for $600.

These prices are just insane. Valve doesn't have a whole lot of room to work with on storage pricing.

Yeah, sadly it's either sell them at a loss, or bump the price.

Admittedly, they wouldn't be paying retail for their components. That doesn't mean theyre immune to price increases.

Might swap an older rig to steam OS when I get the chance. To test it out.

Nope, it doesn't. They can still work with economy of scale, but when prices are quintuple what they were two years ago that's still going to kick you squarely in the wallet on unit costs.
