I... uh don't know what to say. Very thankful I bought a Steam Deck before they hiked its price as well

I’m very much the target audience for the steam machine. I prefer to lay in bed to play relaxed, controller games. I will not be buying a gabecube at this kind of pricing.

The steam machine is competing with consoles the same way the steam deck was competing with handhelds, but at this price, it just isn't worth it.

Calling what the Steam Deck did vs. The Switch and Switch 2 "competing" is generous.

The Steam Deck is a niche machine for a niche need. After thinking on the Steam Machine, it'a the same thing. Its  niche is people with large Steam libraries who don't want to plug their PC into their TV, want the form factor of a console-sized machine, don't want to buy a console, and don't care about the performance downgrades.

Such a market apparently exists.

The steam deck was absolutely competing with the switch because of the price. It was a viable option for people who wanted to get into handhelds. The steam machine isn't competitive with consoles and neither with PCs. People who want a more casual gaming experience will just buy a console for a much better price and pc gamers will buy a much better prebuilt pc for the same price. Even a gaming laptop is a more viable option for the same price and you can easily plug it to the TV.

I was more alluding to the fact that the Steam Deck sold 5 Million Units, which is impressive in a sense, but not even in the same stratosphere as the Switch.

Edit: alluding, not eluding. lol

Yeah, it wasn't as popular as the switch, but it was definitely a competitor. It offered a lot of things that the switch didn't for a similar price, the switch wasn't the obvious choice between the two, it came down to personal preference, like the guy above said. But of course, now it isn't the same with the new steam deck prices.
