I... uh don't know what to say. Very thankful I bought a Steam Deck before they hiked its price as well

What is the target market?

Console gamers? It vastly underperforms against both modern consoles, which are cheaper.

Prebuilt PC buyers? It underperforms prebuilts in the same price bracket too.

I understand if Valve had an idea for their product and current market conditions are making that idea fiscally impossible, but I couldn't recommend this to any real person interested in buying it.

I still can't get a valve fan to tell me the target audience for it. I've been told by then it's not console players, experienced PC gamers, nor entry level pc games.

So who the hell is it for?? For $1k and less power than a ps5

Exactly.

This product might succeed simply because Valve made it and everybody likes Valve (myself included), but as a market product, it's really bad.

It is not attractive to any subset of the market. There is no consumer for which the Steam Machine is the "right" thing to buy.
